Summer brings longer days, greener pastures, and higher temperatures, but cattle are constantly working on staying cool.

Unlike people, cattle don't sweat efficiently. Instead, they rely on several natural behaviors to regulate their body temperature: Seek shade, drink more water, increase breathing, adjust their routine, and they gather less.

Heat stress doesn't just affect comfort; it can reduce feed intake, slow weight gain, impact reproduction, and lower overall performance.

Good cattle management in the summer means providing shade, abundant fresh water, proper ventilation, and minimizing handling during the hottest hours of the day.

Healthy cattle perform better, and it all starts with keeping them comfortable when the temperature rises.

Braunvieh cattle not only excel in the heterosis category, but they also excel in the feedlot and on the rail.

Here are some facts about Braunvieh cattle in the yards and on the rail.

1. Braunvieh cattle are known for efficiently converting feed into pounds, helping reduce the cost of gain while maintaining strong performance in the feedlot.
2. Braunvieh consistently produce carcasses with impressive ribeye area, lean red meat yield, and desirable cutability, making them valuable on the rail.
3. Braunvieh genetics offer rapid growth and strong average daily gain while maintaining the maternal strengths the breed is known for.
4. Braunvieh-influenced cattle often achieve favorable Yield Grades because they naturally produce more muscle with less excess fat, maximizing saleable beef.
5. When crossed with British breeds such as Angus, Braunvieh genetics add hybrid vigor, increased growth, improved feed efficiency, and enhanced carcass value while preserving quality grades.
