One thing about running a business: you HAVE to have discernment. Knowing when to decline an order is crucial. Knowing when to refund somebody instead of continuing to deal with them is important. Not everyone is meant to be your customer, and not everyone has good intentions when they order from you.

I learned that the hard way when I went viral. Some people would literally order cookies just so they could leave a bad review or get online and bash my business. That’s why learning how to read people and pay attention to energy is so important when you run a business. Knowing who should come to your house for pickups, who shouldn’t, who you should do business with, and who you need to politely refund and move around from.

Because some people, no matter how good your service is, no matter how hard you try to fix the issue, cannot WAIT to get online and tear your business down. And most of the time it's over something small that could’ve easily been corrected.

Then you got people online talking about “don’t shop with her,” “she does business out of her house,” “she's dirty,” trying to ruin somebody's reputation over $25 or $50 instead of just allowing the business owner to make it right. Meanwhile, these same people let big corporations mess up their orders all the time and never bring it to the internet.

That’s why discernment matters so much as a business owner. Every dollar is not good money, and protecting your peace, your business, and your safety will always be more important than forcing a sale.
