When Patsy and I decided to open Smokeneck Farm & Garden/General Store in July of 2021, we wanted to do something different. We didn't want a store where you were just another customer. We want each and every person that comes thru our doors to feel like family. We don't just want your business, we want you to enjoy your visit. We want you to feel like an old friend. We will talk with you, laugh with you and even harass you as if we were family... We invite you to sit around the table, rock in the rocking chair, drink coffee, eat table snacks, tell stories (both made up and true lol) and just relax... This world is too serious at times and at Smokeneck... We don't do serious, we do laid back and friendly

To shoot or not to shoot...that is the real question when hunting deer. Here's an article I found

What Age Deer to Shoot:

Age is the number one priority when picking which male deer to shoot—and antler size is not necessarily an accurate indicator of a buck's maturity. It's a fact young bucks may occasionally have larger spreads than older deer. Check out this Boone and Crocket buck age class chart on the National Deer Association website. It shows bucks of any age can display a range of antler scores, with rare 1-year-olds reaching over 100 inches in antler span!

So what age deer should you shoot? A whitetail buck is considered physiologically mature at 5½, and that's your prime shooter age. However, not all areas have 5-year or older bucks. In that case hunters might consider a 3½-year-old as older or mature. Here are a few reasons you should pass up young bucks and harvest your oldest class of mature whitetail deer:

You want deer to complete their life cycle; generally, that’s around 6 years old.
Bucks reach their full genetic body and antler growth potential by 5½; and by then their genetics are spread through your herd.
A bigger-bodied deer means more meat in your freezer.

Folks, come on by Smokeneck and pick you up some of the finest meat you will put in your mouth. Slasham Valley Farms doesn't use steroids or any of that other junk you may find in the grocery stores. They grass feed their cows just down the road in Ashville. Everything is raised and processed right there on their farm. Jason cuts all of his meat at 3/4" to give you a superior cut instead of the 1/2" cut you find in a lot of stores. Everything is vacuum sealed to keep fresh longer without freezer burns. Come on by Smokeneck Farm & Garden/General Store, you won't be disappointed

THEY ARE COMING BACK!!!
Cousins Maine Lobster will be at Smokeneck Farm and Garden/General Store on November 12 from 12:00-7:00 serving the best Lobster dishes directly from Maine.
We had a massive crowd last time they were here so we scheduled them for all day to give folks plenty of time before/after football games to drop in. Come on by and enjoy some fresh Maine Lobster
