Karen had been blending her own spices for years but had never thought about sharing her spices with others. When she met Drew, he fell in love with her and her cooking. He had the idea that she should offer her spice blends to others which was the start of DAK’s Spices. Currently, DAK’s Spices offers a number of different spice blends. Each spice blend is created with love in the kitchen of newly

weds, Drew and Karen. All spice blends contain a unique combination of spices and are completely SALT FREE. So much flavor is packed in one bottle, no other spices are necessary to make any dish gourmet

Here’s how to make it:
▫️ Air fry the chicken and hash brown patty at 400° for 10 minutes;
▫️ While those cook, scramble up my eggs with a dash of OUR Original Red to add amazing flavor and some to the heated up country gravy;
▫️Once everything is done, layer your bowl with the hash brown patty, eggs, chicken, gravy and shredded cheese…YUM YUM YUM!🤩

A YUMMY appetizer for any party you throw!🙋🏻‍♀️

▫️Start with a quick “BBQ” pimento cheese recipe 👉🏻 Cream Cheese, Duke's Mayonnaise, Grated Cheddar 🧀, sliced Pimentos, your favorite BBQ rub, and Texas Pete Hot Sauce;
▫️Stir to combined, then stuff into halved and cored Jalapeños;
Sprinkle with more rub, we used OUR BBQueen, and smoke at 250 for an hour or so!

You guessed it, the “D” in DAK’s!♥️

He never gets the kudos he deserves, nor does he ever get a picture taken with just him in it lol. Scrolled through a bunch of pics of me solo, but none of him solo, how embarrassing! 🤦🏻‍♀️

He is the true backbone of DAK’s. I have plenty of ideas but he is the one that puts them in action. We never would have started selling DAK’s if it wasn’t for his constant encouragement, harassment.💪🏻

When he’s not cleaning up after 5 dogs and 3 puppies 🐶or working, you might catch him on the guitar! He’s an amazing musician but won’t ever say that himself. Have you seen his new found ukulele skills ? 🎸 We need to catch him mid song again. He’s still salty about posting the puppy song video!!!😂

Drew is the heart and soul of this family and always keeps us laughing no matter what! We are grateful for his love each day!🙏🏻

Cheesy Bagel Breakfast Sandwich 🥯🧀🥓

Is there any person who doesn’t like a cheesy bagel breakfast sandwich? This delicious breakfast sandwich that will keep you full all morning long!

Here’s how to make it:
▫️Take your sesame ROYO Bread Co. bagel and cut it in half then set aside;
▫️Pan fry the eggs with OUR Original Red and bacon pieces;
▫️Take the shredded cheese and sprinkle it directly into a Pam sprayed fry pan on medium heat;
▫️Take the cut side part of your bagel with I Cant Believe Its Not Butter and set on top of the shredded cheese (cut side touching cheese);
▫️Then add the egg, slice of cheese then on the other half bagel cut side facing up spray with ICBNB and cover for just a minute;
▫️Use a spatula to pick up my sandwich, sprayed my pan again, put just a bit more cheese on the pan and flip the whole thing over to melt the cheese onto the bagel. BAM!!⚡️

Spicy Southern Deviled Eggs 😈🥚🌶️

is back at creating some delicious DAK’s recipes and he whipped some amazing recipes for the Super Bowl, but these eggs are really good for ANY party!⚡️

Here’s how to make them:
▫️ First steam your eggs for 12 minutes, then immediately place in an ice bath 🥶 to cool for 20;
▫️ Peel, split and scoop out the yolks for the base of your filling;
▫️ To the yolks we add Texas Pete Hot Sauce, Dukes Mayonnaise, dijon mustard, spicy pickling juice (these were habañeros 🥵), and some cayenne pepper;
▫️ Mix to combine and place in a ziploc bag (cut the tip) or a piping bag;
▫️After piping the filling, we topped with green onion, chopped pickled habañeros, and a dusting of OUR Original Red!

Hi It’s Karen, you guessed it the “K” in DAK’s!!!🙋🏻‍♀️

Both of my parents fought against heart disease. I saw how they struggled to find delicious ways to flavor meals without the salt. I decided that there has to a better way. So I decided to start making my own salt free spice blends. Before I met my hubby, Drew (You guessed it, the “D” in DAKS) I never even thought about sharing my homemade spices blends with others. With his encouragement verging on harassment 🤣 He convinced me to give it a try. Hence the start of DAK’s and here we are 13 years later still doing what we love, making healthy cooking easier and tastier.💜🙏🏻

A few things about ME:
✅ I live in Trussville, AL (a suburb of Birmingham, AL) with Drew, Graycen, 5 rescue dogs and 3 foster pups. One more dog and we will have a 3:1 dog to person ratio 🐶
✅ When I am not being spicy and creating delicious blends, I work as a clinical health psychologist
✅ I am addicted to my Peloton follow me Add_It_DAK) 🚲;
✅ I also love doing yoga, it is way better than slapping people🧘‍♀️;
✅ I use DAK’s daily...duh. My go to blends are Super Greek, Steakhouse, Taco Knight and Butt Kickin’ Buffalo. Kaboom if I am being brave;
✅ I am not sure I could make it without my air fryer;
✅ I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve changed my hair color 🤩;
✅ I love being a Karate Mom (some mom’s tie bows, other’s tie belts, well Graycen actually ties her belt better than me) 🥋;
✅ My perfect meal, bacon wrapped filet with Steakhouse, roasted potatoes with Original Red, glass of yummy red wine; and dark chocolate for dessert 🥩 🍷🍫;
✅ Drew makes fun of me because I keep like 6 planners, he’s like how many calendars do you have? 🗓️

▫️pre-cook your spaghetti squash with olive oil and OUR Original Red;
▫️ sautée andouille chicken sausage, mushrooms, spinach, and more seasonings;
▫️ once browned, add in Rao's Homemade pasta sauce to simmer and warm;
▫️ scoop out spaghetti squash into a bowl and serve the pan mixture over top;
▫️ top with nutritional yeast for some extra !💪🏻

We love to talk about food, cook food, and of course EAT FOOD! Oh and we all have a slight obsession with rescuing dogs!🐶

I am going to talk in the first person, as it’s easier that way…HI EVERYONE! My name is Katie and I am the Social Media Manager for DAK’s! I love working with this team. It has been an amazing experience for me and I am so grateful to work with Karen and Drew. I LOVE DAK’s and no joke, I use the spices every single day!🤩

A few things about ME:
▫️ I live in Charleston, SC with my fiance and rescue dog Lucy (who is part corgi and golden retriever);
▫️ I am also a blogger and content creator who focuses on healthy food, healthy movement, my own personal health journey, and sometimes I share a little bit about my personal life;
▫️ I LOVE to workout. It's my therapy…If I am not running, you will find me practicing yoga at The Works CHS, strength training, or walking Lucy. I love to walk with her;

She used leftover “salsa chicken” (chicken cooked in salsa) leftover from “Taco Tuesday” so she made some quesadillas with someCrepini. She just added the chicken and some cheese to the crepes and baked them on 400 until they were crispy. Dip them in a mixture of greek yogurt, avocado, Cardnl - Low Carb & Gluten Free season salt and OUR KABOOM!!💥

Easy Chicken Dinner


It doesn’t get easier than this and all you need are some boneless chicken breasts, OUR Blackened seasoning, and olive oil.💜

▫️Heat a non-stick skillet with 1 tablespoon olive oil;
▫️ Generously sprinkle OUR Blackened seasoning on both sides;
▫️ Cook for a total of 7 minutes on each side (depends on the thickness of the breasts);
▫️ Remove the pan from the heat. Top the skillet with foil and let rest for 5 minutes.

Here’s what you need:
✅ 4 chopped smoked sausages;
✅ Cook these down until cooked through and then remove;
✅ Add in minced onion and garlic into the sausage/pancetta grease;
✅ Add in your peppers and then your shredded cabbage;

For y’all that don’t know, we have been foster puppies for the past 3 weeks that were abandoned in a dumpster on Christmas Eve. It’s a miracle that they didn’t die!🥲

The puppies are now 6 weeks old and ready to find their forever homes!🏡

Here’s the the 6 things we have learned from this adventure:
🐶 Puppies p*e and poo a lot;
🐶 G’s heart and capacity for love is beyond measure;
🐶 Drew has untapped ukulele skills ;
🐶it’s incredibly difficult to get 3 puppies to pose at the same time;
🐶 Puppies p*e and poo a lot, did we say that already?
🐶 Caring for something so small and innocent really puts a new perspective on what’s important. And especially seeing your child grow and accept this responsibility with open arms is something we won’t forget. We saw a different side of G and even ourselves that we definitely want to see more of!🙏🏻

So grateful for this experience!❤️

It’s fun…a little messy…but it allows everyone to get creative and make whatever they want. Plus, cooking pizza at home is cheaper, healthier, and you can wear your PJ’s.🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

✔️ Sourdough is my favorite bread and Trader Joe's is the BEST! I love the huge slices and it is only $2.99 a loaf. And YES I eat carbs. I need carbs...We all need carbs;
✔️Currently cannot get enough of spinach and mushrooms...Which is interesting, since they are both jam packed with protein, fiber, antioxidants, iron, vitamins, and minerals! My body wants all the GOOD STUFF!💙

This meal is beyond easy to make, gentle on my stomach, and is jam-packed with a healthy mix of protein, fats, whole grains, and don’t EVER forget the veggies (I cannot stop eating all the mushrooms as of lately). Not only does this meal nourish my is easy to make and requires hardly any cleanup!

✔️Season the salmon with Dak's spices Lemon Pep & KABOOM;
✔️Place salmon and a handful of cherry tomatoes and mushrooms into the GoWISE USA air-fryer that is lined with Reynolds wrap and sprayed with cooking spray;
✔️Cook at 380 degrees for 20 minutes!

✔️Place one cup of rice into the rice cooker and season with Dak's spices KABOOM

Some random Tuesday TRUTHS, because I love sharing fun little facts...LOL!

✔️I NEVER used to eat toast in the middle of the day, definitely one of those ED rules I made up and followed for years...not anymore;
✔️I NEVER smother my toast. I like to tear the pieces off and individually spread it with a little bit of guacamole and jelly;
✔️YES...jelly & guacamole are a weird, but really good combo!

- 2x slices of sourdough toast + scrambled eggs seasoned with Dak's spices KABOOM & Nothin’ But Ranch + a handful of spinach, tomatoes, onions + dollop of guacamole + homemade rhubarb strawberry jelly!

Savory Oats are so UNDERRATED!

Even though it’s been hot and humid here in Charleston, I cannot eat enough oatmeal. For someone who cut it out of their diet for years, now is eating it daily and enjoying every single bite. It’s easy, good, ready in minutes, versatile, and has lots of health benefits. I LOVE that I am able to listen to my body and feed it what it is craving...I wonder what this week's cravings will be?!?!?

- ½ c oatmeal + 2x fried eggs + handful of spinach + sauteed mushrooms and onions + ½ avocado + sprinkled with Dak's spices KABOOM and Everything But Tha’ Salt!

Last week I made tuna fish salad THREE nights in a row for dinner! I was bored with food. I wanted something that required minimal effort. I didn’t want to food shop. It was hot...I was moody with PMS...WAH WAH WAH...pity party! I had a couple moments last week. I have them, give myself grace, still nourish my body, still do the workouts, and know that it too shall pass!

Two things though...This garlic rosemary bread from Costco is AMAZING! Two gigantic loaves for under $7.00. I slice it up and freeze them. And that dollop of “Dill Pickle Hummus” is so good, if you like pickles of course...I put it on everything!

- 2x thick toasted slices of Costco rosemary olive bread + cabbage + sliced cherry tomatoes + a heaping spoonful of Trader Joe's-Mt. Pleasant,SC “Dill Pickle Hummus” + Costco white albacore tuna mixed with and Dak's spices Nothin’ But Ranch & KABOOM!

What do you cook on repeat during the summer months?

I LOVE how certain foods can bring back all the GOOD memories! As we know, food is so much more than just the food and when there are stories behind the meals it makes it that more nostalgic and delicious. My Mom is an amazing cook, but gosh darn she could make a mean tuna salad! I will NEVER say no, if she offers to make a tuna sandwich or even a tuna melt!

**OMG...a tuna melt sandwich on an English muffin with slices of American cheese that were bubbly and burnt?!?!? ANYONE ELSE LOVE THESE? Okay I digress!**

No matter how hard I try, my tuna doesn’t even compare to hers. Maybe because she puts in a huge dollop of mayo, the perfect amount of celery, onion, and spices, or that it just has that mother's touch. Hers just always tasted way better than mine and still does.

And since it feels like summer here in Charleston the craving for big crunchy salads sounds really GOOD now and look at me eating more variety too! I love tuna fish. I know it is hit or miss with a lot of people, but I eat a lot of it and it brings back those happy childhood memories.💜

- Chopped lettuce + cabbage + chickpeas + walnuts + white albacore tuna mixed with Duke's Mayonnaise and Dak's spices KABOOM!

I find it fascinating how our cravings for certain foods are always changing! These cravings can change with the seasons, our workouts, and our moods. Learning to acknowledge the cravings and feed those cravings makes me feel really good mentally and physically and allows me to do ALL THE THINGS with a better attitude and stronger body!

Last week, I was eating a lot of cherries and red meat...This week it is all about bananas and eggs. Learn to listen to these cravings and DO YOU!

I will NEVER get tired of simple meals like this! Ready in 10 minutes or less...Loaded with all the nutrients...and damn DELICIOUS it is a meal that gets eaten a lot these days!

One of my homework assignments that I have been working on since starting this healing process is to eat more variety. For years (YES...years), I would eat the same damn foods every day. I honestly don’t know how I did it, but I got stuck in the routine and it was not healthy for my gut, my training, my mind, and my overall well-being.

Unbreaking that pattern has been hard at times, but eating ALL THE FOODS, has helped me step out of my comfort zone, has helped my body heal, and has allowed me to get back to a healthy and happy place of loving food again. A step in the right direction...Go ME!
