Little Nest Acres

Little Nest Acres Welcome to Little Nest Acres, our family homestead in Northeast Bismarck, ND.

Over the last 10 months we have transformed this property into our garden oasis and poultry paradise with 45 chickens, 8 ducks and 50 quail!

Oh how we love our high maintenance homestead dog, Hank. He’s our loyal protector, hilarious goofball and quail egg stealer. And of course he doesn’t sleep in a crate. 🤣

There are times when I could just hang out with the chickens. 🐓 They have so much personality. A little spice and some sass. Love my chickens.

One night away for work and three days away for a mini vacation. With the kids. The oldest is 16 and the youngest is 7. Enough said. In all seriousness, we had a blast in Medora, ND and came home to our garden overflowing and our chickens, ducks and quail giving us lots of eggs! Even homesteaders need a little vacation every now and then.

Little Nest Acres has help holding down the homestead this weekend so we could take a short vacation to Medora, ND. It’s just a 2-hour drive west of our home and it’s one of our favorite places to visit. It’s where my husband proposed, a place to see the bison roam and the wild mustangs run free. Medora is now home to the new which absolutely amazing and . We don’t get a break often but this is one of the best!

Step 1: Admit I have a problem. Step 2: Don’t publicly share how many chickens you own. Step 3: Keep buying chickens. Step 4: What problem?

I won’t lie, I’m guilty of not sitting still and resting. I’ll rest later. Because right now, I’m having too much fun collecting eggs, buying more chickens, pickling eggs, building a new coop and run for new chickens, deep cleaning coop number one, making an amazing pasta dish with veggies from our garden, wandering through the garden and just enjoying the beautiful weather.

Good morning and Happy Saturday from our three puppers at Little Nest Acres. They don’t take sleep-in Saturday as seriously as we do and were up before the roosters. They take their job of alerting us to predators, the FedEx truck and fluffy bunnies very seriously. Atlas is our old man and turned 13 on July 4. Josie is 9 and is affectionately called Jelly Bean because she’s a tad overweight. Hank is our baby and is just over a year old. He believes he is a human and likes to participate in family hugs.
