Little Nest Acres Welcome to Little Nest Acres, our family homestead in Northeast Bismarck, ND.

Over the last 10 months we have transformed this property into our garden oasis and poultry paradise with 45 chickens, 8 ducks and 50 quail!

When you have one dog who looks like a fierce protector (he’s really a giant baby) and the other who looks and acts like Bozo the Clown. They protect the homestead from the barn cats and Bozo a.k.a. Hank likes to rile the chickens up.

TODAY and Kate McKinnon, I will be your chicken nanny! My ladies are spoiled with treats, fresh-grown squash from the garden, bougie coops and runs and lots of love. I travel well and bring my own egg basket!

I went to let the dogs out at lunch and all I could see was a wall of blackbirds. They were perched on every tree for as far as I could see and they we flying north in massive droves. I felt like the Alfred Hitchcock’s silhouette was going to appear.

Tonight I let Elle shoot a video of me making pepper jelly. I had no idea it would become our post for the day. She loves helping in the garden and kitchen and now she’s our new video producer!! She loves the camera!

The end of another garden season. This was our biggest garden yet and we learned a lot! We’ve tilled a new pumpkin patch for next year, we’ve redesigned how we will plant tomatoes, beans and cucumbers, and we’ve started our seed lists. One stop for garlic today and we will be done.

I love getting up before the rest of the house to capture the calm outside. Beautiful sunrise with just a little fog settling in the low spots. Happy day to everyone!

Last night we started our final garden harvest with the squash and melons. Tonight we did the rest of peppers and half the tomatoes. I can’t believe how well everything is still producing. It’s October 9!!! What’s still growing in your garden??

Coming home from vacation is always hard! But we came home today to a bountiful harvest and no frost yet!! Squash, pumpkins, summer squash and zucchini not to mention a few raspberries!! The rest of the tomatoes and peppers will get harvested this weekend. Follow along to see how much harvest!
