💜A healthy person wants a 1,000 things. A sick person wants only 1. For many families (mine included) those words carry a meaning that’s difficult to put into words. When your loved one is battling illness, suddenly the calendar fills with medical appointments, unopened bills begin to pile up, and the little things that once seemed important fade away. As part of Floyd Farmers Market family, I was deeply saddened to learn that our friend David Brown has been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL), an aggressive cancer of the lymphatic system.
The photos I’m sharing tell just a small part of his story. David creating in his paper studio, David at the Floyd Farmers Market, and some of the beautiful notebook and cards I’ve collected from him. David’s art also holds a very personal place in my heart. My Uncle Bert, whom we lost to cancer this year, was a happy recipient of David’s cards mailed all the way from Virginia to Hawaii. Uncle Bert told me that in his final days, he wanted to lie in our lavender field 🌿 count the sparkling evening stars above him✨, and rest his head upon the beautiful marbled waves of David’s sea 🌊. That memory makes me cherish David’s work and David himself ~ even more 💜.
For those of us who have watched someone we love walk through an illness, we know how much a little kindness, encouragement, and financial support can mean. No gift is too small. Every contribution can help ease some of the burden while David focuses his strength, energy on treatment and recovery. I’m rooting for David. I’m hopeful for his recovery. And I hope you’ll join me in surrounding him with the same beauty and kindness he has shared with many of us through his art.
