Long weekend on the ridge. 🐓

Alarm went off at 3 a.m. Loaded birds in the dark, drove them to the processor, and came back to move the next batch out to fresh pasture.

That’s the cycle around here. One group finishes, the next one starts, and there’s no off week.

The little man worked hard. Held every bird he could get his hands on and told us about each one.

Folks see the finished product in the freezer. They don’t always see the 3 a.m. loading, the drive, or the hands it took to get there. We figure you ought to.

We made the news. 🐄

WATE 6 sat down with us this week, and the headline says it better than we could: “East Tennessee cattle farmer urges people to buy local as beef prices soar.”

We told them what we’ve been telling y’all. The cattle market dropped the morning that announcement came out, and for a smaller operation like ours, that hits.

But the part we’re proudest of is how the story ends:

“Your local farmers are down the road. You can come see the cows, how they’re raised, and know where your food is coming from.”

That’s the whole thing right there. Beef prices will do what they do. That gate stays open either way.

Beef prices were all over the news yesterday. 🐄

There’s a lot of talk about imports and grocery costs, and we’re not going to pretend we have the answer for the whole country. Cheaper groceries matter. Families are stretched. We feel that too.

What we can tell you is what happens on our farm.

Our beef is raised local, on grass, no antibiotics, no hormones, USDA processed. Same standards we hold for our chicken and pork.

You can drive out here and see the cattle standing in the field. Ask us anything you want. That part doesn’t change no matter what happens in Washington.

The American cattle herd is the smallest it’s been in 75 years. Farms like ours are trying to build it back, one calf at a time.

“Pasture-raised" is printed on a lot of packages. Here is what it means on our farm. 🌱

Our meat chickens get moved to fresh grass. Our hogs live outside on pasture, not concrete. Our cattle are on grass.

No antibiotics. No hormones. Every animal USDA processed.

Let’s settle the debate: white meat or dark meat? 🍗 While chicken breasts get all the glory, the real flavor is in the legs and thighs! Because our chickens are raised on pasture and actually use their legs to roam and forage, the dark meat develops an incredibly rich, complex flavor and stays juicy no matter how you cook it.

Pasture day! 🌱 Our meat chickens just graduated from the brooder to fresh pasture, and they’re already doing what chickens do best.

Here’s what makes pasture-raised different: these birds aren’t sitting in a barn their whole lives. From today on, they’ll be moved to fresh ground every single day. That means clean grass under their feet, bugs and forage to scratch through, and sunshine on their backs. It’s how chickens were meant to live.

And here’s the bonus, while they’re out there living their best life, they’re also fertilizing our pastures and building healthier soil. The animals feed the land, and the land feeds the animals. That’s the cycle.
