Are you interested in beekeeping but don't have the time or space to set up a colony of your own? Have you wanted to find a way to contribute to the increasing problems our native habitats face? Consider sponsoring a beehive and help support our pollinators and their habitats in a new way.
We will add a hive for you to our apiary here at Treasure Acres, manage the colony for you, give updates on the progress of the bee yard, along with photos of your bees at work. As a bonus, you will receive a portion of the harvestable honey from your hive at the end of the season! (10 jars minimum) Enjoy the fun and benefits of beekeeping without the chance of being stung. For more information about our farm and hive sponsorship call or text me, John Seiser, at 515 835-2466. You can also message me through our page https://www.facebook.com/Treasure-Acres

All hive sponsorships include:
Printable hive sponsorship certificate - great for gifting!
Honey from your hive mailed or delivered to you after harvest in the fall/early winter, usually October-November. (If your hive does not produce any excess honey, the honey will be shared from one of the nearby hives within the apiary.)

These sows are pretty smart! -17 and -35 wind chill, so they made a nest about 3 foot high, on south side where window lets in sunshine for heat. They even drug one my tarps off of a tank and included in their nest! The black one is probably 330 lbs and I couldn’t even see her when I first went in.

Treasure Acres Bee Sting Honey production is coming along! I am infusing our honey with pepper flavors and it is really tasting great! One Sting is mild, Smokey flavored jalapeño and Serrano. Two Sting has a little heat to it , but doesn’t burn your mouth, with some added Habanero pepper.

This piglet decided to take a nap on the head of another bred sow, not even his mother! Locked all the sheep and goats in so they don’t get stuck in the drifts. Stay safe everyone, getting nasty out there.

Unfortunately, there is never a dull moment here on the farm! I had four hogs sold, and ready to go to the locker to be butchered on Friday, and instead we are discovering they are having babies!! Since we don’t have a boar on the farm we thought maybe it was a Christmas miracle, but then found out a couple days before we picked them up from another farm, they were penned up with some boars while he was sorting them. So, we now have two litters on the ground and probably two more on the way very soon. They are a mixture of Berkshire, Old Spot, and Mangalista heritage breeds and I bet someday they will taste delicious!

Laura and I got around 400 cloves of Italian Purple garlic planted today! Made a cardboard template to plant by and I am hoping it will also serve as mulch to keep weeds down.

Today we got some things planted in the hoop house! Peppers which we had grown from seed and strawberries! I hope to finish middle bed tomorrow but still not sure if it will be tomatoes or raspberries

05/08/2020

No planting today so we got the cover on hoop house and hopefully we will fill it with strawberry plants this weekend!

The girls are bringing in lots of pollen today! Look at their hind legs and you will see their pollen baskets are full of bright yellow pollen!

04/22/2020

Laura and I are making great progress in the garden area! We were delayed a few days cutting trees down but got a lot done today. Not sure what will happen with farmers markets yet for this year but we have talked about opening the farm up one night per week for people to purchase produce if anyone is interested.
