Last night we had a big storm, and after dinner I went out to check on the birds. That’s when I found this little gray pullet on the brink of death.
She was face down in the mud, soaking wet, cold, trampled, and barely moving her toes. I honestly thought we had lost her.
Then I remembered a video I had seen another chicken keeper post, “They aren’t dead until they’re warm and dead.” I wish I could remember who posted it so I could give them credit!
So I jumped into action. I bundled her up in a towel and then started blow drying her. Slowly, she began to move a little more and a little more. Then she opened her eyes. I kept drying her until her feathers were completely dry. Her body temperature still felt dangerously low, but she was fighting.
We put her in this little pen with a heat lamp and checked on her throughout the night. Every time I checked, she had improved a little more.
And this morning… she is alert, walking, eating, and drinking! 🥹
I am absolutely ecstatic. What a little fighter! ♥️
