Stratford Square Mall, a product of the 1980s mall-building craze, has faced challenges while other enclosed malls adapted to changing retail landscapes. Despite efforts by the Mayor and Village Board to collaborate with the mall’s owner, Namdar, negotiations faltered. Consequently, the Village of Bloomingdale took the initiative to acquire the mall and its anchor stores independently. After consolidating the property earlier this year, the Village is now poised to embark on a transformative mixed-use development.

Committed to community involvement, the Village Board is diligently crafting a redevelopment plan that incorporates residents' input. This comprehensive approach aims to revitalize the area with a blend of restaurants, entertainment venues, retail spaces, housing options, and public open spaces. This redevelopment project not only promises to reshape Bloomingdale's landscape but also to strengthen its financial foundation.

Mayor Franco expressed excitement about the project, highlighting the opportunity to positively impact residents for generations. With the property consolidation complete, the Village is assisting remaining tenants in relocating to new spaces. The mall is set to close to the public on Sunday, April 21st at 6 PM, marking a significant milestone in Bloomingdale's journey towards a vibrant, reimagined hub for the community.

I sent this email to the Village Administrator Peter Scalera and his response below. In short, the mall will close April 21, at 6:00pm in order to give the library tiles back to families that want them on April 17-19. They will not auction off anything left behind in the mall and they will be giving the plants to the Bloomingdale Garden Club to sell.

All tenants of the mall got a notice on January 22nd by certified letter that they will need to vacate in 90 days.The mall will be closed to the public on or before April 15th. But, after the early voting ends.

Bloomingdale village officials agreed to settle a condemnation lawsuit against Namdar Realty Group by purchasing the remaining portions of the mall for $8.75 million.

I haven't posted in awhile. So much has happened with our beautiful mall. I have been reluctant to post because there has been a lot of speculation and contradictory stories that we've been told or heard. No one knows the actual facts going forward at this point. When I have facts, I will post them here. I will post some news articles soon.
