I’m thrilled to share that my new flower business is blooming abundantly in its first season – I’m actually growing more flowers than I can sell right now! While it’s a wonderful feeling to have such success, I’m now faced with a delightful dilemma: what to do with all these beautiful blooms?

I’m delighted to introduce you to the magnificent snapdragon! I harvest these beauties when the lower blooms are just beginning to open, as shown in the first picture. Simply place them in a vase with water, and they will thrive with no further attention. The second picture shows these same flowers after 1.5 weeks in my home, still flourishing with minimal effort. I anticipate enjoying them for another week as the remaining blooms continue to open. Their beauty and resilience make them my current favorite flower!

I wanted to share a quick update about our poppy bouquets. Last weekend, I was concerned that some of the poppy buds wouldn’t open and decided not to include them in arrangements. However, by Monday those buds had bloomed into beautiful flowers.

Going forward, some poppy bouquets may include unopened buds so that you can enjoy the experience of watching them bloom in your own home. It is such a delight to watch them emerge!

Wow! So many aneomes and snapdragons coming to the Bloomington Winter Farmer’s market tomorrow. Did you know that both of these varieties have a super long vase life, especially in the cooler months? It’s not abnormal to have these flowers blooming for two weeks in your home (depending on their environment, of course!). I will have other flowers too, just feeling excited to share these two with you. See you tomorrow!

I’m absolutely loving the pop of color these poppies bring to these dreary winter days! Even though they have the shortest vase life (only about 5-7 days) of all the flowers I grow, I still think they’re worth it for the joy they bring.

I’m continually refining my harvest and storage methods, and I hope to have some beautiful poppy bouquets available at the market this Saturday. Having them on my kitchen table this week has been a wonderful mood booster!
