There are still so many flowers blooming out in the fields, and the farm is feeling very much like fall.

So, before the first frost arrives, I’m opening the fields for an evening Fall Flower U-Pick.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1
6:00–7:30 PM

There’s an abundance of flowers right now — dahlias, zinnias, celosia, asters, and plenty of other seasonal blooms. Come wander the rows, enjoy the farm in the evening, and make your own jar of flowers to take home.

U-Pick is $30 for a quart jar, or $25 if you bring your own jar.

Because the farm is also our home, visits are by RSVP only. If you’d like to come, send me a DM with your email address and I’ll send you the details and add you to the list.

I’d love to share this beautiful abundance with you before the season turns.

Our seven young growers have been hard at work all summer growing, tending, harvesting, and curing their very own pumpkin patch! Now they’re hauling their pumpkins to the Youth Day at the Market tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 26, 9–12:30 at Fernandez Plaza in downtown Bloomington. Come support these young farmers and take home a pumpkin grown right here at Winter Blooms!

The pumpkins are ready! This summer, seven young growers took over a little corner of Winter Blooms and grew their own pumpkin patch. They each chose a variety and worked together all summer—planting, tending, harvesting, and getting their pumpkins ready for market. Now they’re bringing their harvest to the Youth Market this Saturday, Sept. 26, at The Bloomington Farmer’s Market. Come meet the growers and take home a pumpkin or two!

The seven young farmers out here at Winter Blooms have been hard at work on their pumpkin patch all summer, and now they’re bringing their harvest in for curing.

Each farmer specialized in one variety, but collectively they’ve helped each other maintain, harvest, and cure the pumpkins. They couldn’t be more excited to share them with you—and they’re already talking about what they want to grow next year!

Their main pumpkin selling outlet will be the Kids Youth Market on September 26th. I may bring a small bushel to the farmers market as well, and you’ll soon find their pumpkins at the Bloomington Farm Stop Collective.

All money earned will go directly to the young farmers.

And of course, Raleigh, my faithful sidekick, was the main sniffer of the entire operation.

The farm felt so crisp and autumnal this morning. I’m all for the cool down—ripping out summer plants and honing in on all the fall beauties. Though, these partly open dahlias are always beautiful.

It’s been a whirlwind of a week. My family lost a dear loved one a couple of days ago, and I’m taking some time to be with family.

My takeaway this week is simple: hold on to the people you love and look for the beauty in life, wherever you are.

You’ll find my sister, Lucy, at the market tomorrow morning with the flowers. I’m grateful she can be there in my place.

Sheesh, it’s been a hot week! If you know me well, you know I kind of wilt in the summer. But I’m taking a lesson from these flowers: drink water, and it’s okay to droop a little in the midday heat.

Nevertheless, another Saturday is rolling around, and I’ll be at the Bloomington Farmers’ Market from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. See you there!

Last weekend, a few of the kid farmers I have on board growing a pumpkin patch brought in their first little harvest. We’ll be wiping these down, oiling them, and curing these beauties for a few weeks before they’re ready to go.
Every weekend, we’ll be bringing in a new batch, and I’m keeping a close eye on the giant pumpkins that seemingly turned orange overnight. It’s all very exciting to watch this little patch come to life.
