Thank you to our neighbors and devoted friends who stopped by yesterday. We learned a lot and will do some more prep work for next time! We still have 5 dozen eggs- feel free to contact us if you want some at a discounted price. Because you would have to swing by to pick them up, we'll price them based on what you'd like to pay.

Heads up Bluemont locals! We will be out in front of our house selling eggs tomorrow, Monday 30th starting at 10am. Address: 1485 Ebenezer Road.

A dozen fresh eggs are $5. We'll discount eggs from April that have been refrigerated at $3 a dozen or 2 for $5.

BONUS! Our neighbor who is a talented bread baker and author of children's books will be joining us with her goodies! My goodness we may even have lemonade on hand!

Swing by after 10am! If we sell out, we'll post when the good are gone for the day. See you then!

Also... superfluous warning. I don’t think random folx gonna come open the run, but... maybe?

Good evening folks. This post is about a cat we found on Ebenezer Rd in Clarke County where we live. No one responded to an earlier post on a local lost pets page for our county claiming the kitty. So, I will be working with a TNR program now because I need help trapping this cat (it just won't let me near it). Then we’ll take it to the vet in the next few days. We’ll check to see if it's been chipped. If it hasn't, we’ll assess for TNR or fostering. Either way, this cat will get any treatment/vaccines/spay/neutering it needs. I am posting this update to do my due diligence reaching out JUST in case anyone on Ebenezer Rd recognizes this cat. Please share this post if you live in our neck of the woods! I do not intend to kidnap anyone’s cat. It seems feral, but you never know. It has a heated shelter and food until the vet can assess it.

update: he was apprehended early this morning.

Sharing for all NOVA and West Va friends. According to Police in all surrounding counties, he’s still at large.

One of the most amazing things to see here, is total darkness. No light pollution immediately evident(it’s there, just not obvious).

Tonight, a low fire, and the Milky Way can be seen. Imagine a week from now.

Today is dead/dying/diseased tree removal day. Sorry for the noise, neighbors! Lots of trimming around power/phone lines () and removal of limbs touching the cabin (stink bugs arrive soon). We waited until nesting season for birds was over or ending!

Loudoun's Rural Leaders Launch New Ag School

New Ag school in Loudoun! This is a tuition-free certificate program that will provide mentorship to farm employees, as well as hands-on training in everything from horticulture to hospitality to prepare them to grow Loudoun County’s rural economy. The curriculum is in both English and Spanish. It was started by Doug Fabbioli, New Ag School board member and owner of Fabbioli Cellars. For more information on the New Ag School, email [email protected]

How best to protect the area’s thousands of acres of farmland from development has been a decades-long debate in Loudoun County, often battled out in board rooms and late-night committee meetings. Now, the men and women who lead some of the county’s most successful rural businesses say that part

International Migratory Bird Day | Home

Birds have no political climate! Today is International Migratory Bird Day- the only international education program that celebrates the migration of nearly 350 bird species between their nesting habitats in North America and wintering grounds in Latin America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Celebrate the importance of stopover sites, crucial refuges where migratory birds rest and refuel before continuing their remarkable journeys. Here at Fifteen Acre Wood, we just welcomed the return of the Wood Thrush and the Ruby-throated Hummingbird!

Find more bird nerd stuff here: http://www.migratorybirdday.org/

International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) celebrates one of the most important and spectacular events in the Americas: bird migration. Since 1993, IMBD has fostered bird conservation and education, and has introduced countless youths and adults to migratory birds.

Hmmm. Our trail cam on our porch has given us evidence that we need to start pulling our bird feeders in at night (or completely). That is, if we can find them in one piece! They were all taken. Be bear aware! But don't fear what you can easily become educated about. Remember we moved into *their* habitat. And we're so grateful to live around beautiful wildlife! 🐻 🌲

The region is having an amazing peak season of fall color this year- downtown, the burbs, and here in the woods. But there's nothing like waking up to sit on your cabin porch and be completely surrounded by so many trees. All lit up with color. Pictures don't do it justice.

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service - Migratory Bird Program | Conserving America's Birds

Today is Centennial Day! 100 years ago today, the U.S. signed the first Migratory Bird Treaty with Great Britain (for Canada). It was the culmination of an unprecedented movement to protect wildlife wherever it lived, including across international borders, and it set the stage for a century of bird conservation. We celebrate all year at Fifteen Acre Wood by preventing bird collisions with window glass, LOTS of bird watching, and providing bird friendly landscaping and habitat! Here's to the the next 100 years of bird conservation!

A little sad watching our wild birds look for their feeders tonight. We will miss seeing them but all feeders just came down until winter. Bear proofing is underway with our area's three emboldened bears in our woods. But, some really great bear biologists from VA State Game and Inland Fisheries have been on the phone with me to help. Their website has some great tips and the state biologists are pretty awesome. Next up: trash management and coop improvements! Enjoy this clip!
