The harvest is plentiful!
Look at these beautiful eggplants, cucumbers and baby watermelons!

I read that lots of farmers don’t make many posts this time of year due to all the issues plaguing the plants and the w**ds (🫣).
Yet, despite the hot and wet weather causing all kinds of fungus and insane w**d growth, the pests eating everything 🄓- we’re still out here growing food!
I try to remind myself that pests are a sign of a healthy ecosystem šŸ› and that every year we are learning how to grow food better for our little corner of the world. šŸŒŽ

Looking forward to seeing you tonight at the Bondurant Farmers Market. We also will have garlic, onions, okra, tomatoes (finally!),beans and more.

It’s been a tough few days here at the farm. Our oldest doggie Falkor spent his last days and crossed the rainbow bridge on Friday.

Falky was our bestest friend and spent his days roaming the land, eating anything and everything and chasing sticks. He loved a good scratch and a nap anytime of day. I mean- just look at how majestic he was! šŸ«¶šŸ¼

We are grateful he spent his life with us and we couldn’t ask for a better friend. We’ve learned so much from him.
See you in our dreams buddy. 🌈🐾

Be sure to swing by the Loafer's Mill to catch our produce if you miss us at the market.
They also have a great selection of meat products, honey, dairy products and all kinds of tasty goodies!

We just got another fresh delivery of locally grown produce from ReGeneration Farm in Bondurant!

This week’s lineup includes:
šŸ«› Fresh green beans
šŸ„’ Large & small cucumbers
🌿 Zucchinis

Slice up the cucumbers for a refreshing snack or to top a salad, toss the zucchini on the grill or into a stir-fry, and steam or roast the green beans for an easy side dish. And don’t forget—our homemade ranch is the perfect pairing for fresh veggies!

There’s nothing better than filling your table with fresh, local ingredients. Stop in and grab yours while this week’s harvest lasts!

NO MARKET TONIGHT
We won’t be at the Bondurant Farmers Market tonight, we are attending a practicalfarmer event at bridgewater_farm.

The community fridge at the bondurantlibrary is stocked with kale, collards, squash, cucumber and beans. Please take as much as you need or want. šŸ«¶šŸ¼

Also be sure to check out all our friends at the market- they will have plenty of fresh produce and tasty treats to get you through the week.

FARM UPDATE:
It’s been a busy couple of weeks. We had 11+ inches of rain in 2 days which meant flooded crops and a lot of water in our basement 🄓
The w**ds are high, we are transitioning to fall crops, the mowing never ends and it all can feel like a lot!
BUT!!!
There is so much joy to be had. Here’s a few things bringing a smile to my face
1. This view of my flowers everytime I walk in the house
2. Eggplant babies
3. Cucumbers and zucchini
4. The drive home from Baxter with these cows on a hill
5. Kale
6. My first successful sweet corn!
7. Baby egg yolks inside the chickens we butchered
8. Waking up to the smell of 2 big pots of chicken stock cooking and smaltz being rendered

What’s bringing you joy this summer?

Something about sweltering temps in July has me listening to 90s country with the windows down, taking morning swims and craving of refreshing drinks.
Enter FARM-ADE. My own version of an electrolyte beverage I saw cruising the socials a couple years ago.

1/2 gal water
2 T molasses
2 T honey
Big pinch of salt
Splash of maple syrup
Juice of two oranges

Put it in a jar and shake it all up. Pour over ice. Change up the citrus if you want. Add more syrup or honey for more sweetness. It’s delicious!

Speaking of ADE (AID)… I’ve been thinking about what it means to have the right to control our own food systems (food sovereignty).
EVERYONE deserves the right to healthy and nutritious food and clean water.
EVERYONE.
Growing your own food or supporting a local farmer who is using practices in line with proper land stewardship is a great way to support your right and others rights to this life sustaining stuff.
Giving to a community fridge (or using one to access healthy and nutritious food) also supports our right as a community and individuals to take care of ourselves and each other.

I hope this holiday weekend you get a chance to gather around a table of food with your family, friends or community and reflect on how we all can contribute to a better future for our food systems and our country.
