RHUBARB
It’s one of the first things available at the spring markets. Rhubarb requires a hard freeze to regenerate so it’s pretty popular here in the Midwest.
You probably have had a rhubarb pie or strawberry/rhubarb jam but have you ever roasted it? Pickled it? Made a cheesecake?
This versatile vegetable has a sour note that turns rich when roasted- I tried a sheet pan chicken recipe with rhubarb and onion. It got a lot of praise from the family!
When mixed with sugar- it turns sweet and is great in crisps, pies and this delicious cheesecake bar recipe I tried from ruthannzimm

I’ve also pickled rhubarb for salad or a crunchy treat (Martha Stewart has a great recipe). And we always freeze some to make a nice treat in the winter months.

Rhubarb will still be at the market for the next couple weeks then we’ll be moving on to something else in season!

What are the ways you like to eat rhubarb?

Farm update!
Week 3 of the market has come and gone. It was a beautiful night and we had lots of folks stop by the stand. It really is my favorite part of doing the market- meeting people and talking plants and food. 🤓

The focus this last week has been planting and finishing the prep for the tomato and pepper garden. I got melons, cucumbers, eggplant and corn transplants in. I also seeded some beans. 🍆🥒

Jordan has been planting a lot of honey berries, gooseberries and cherry trees this spring. 🍒

We also welcomed a couple new members to our farm! They’ll be here living their best life for a few months. 🐖

The girls have been laying ALL the eggs and we’ve been grateful for the abundance! 🍳

Spring greens are coming in and I’m looking forward to having salad mix at the stand soon!
Plenty of healthy tomato and pepper starts for your garden! Check us out at the Bondurant Farmers Market or DM for on farm pickup

Farm update!
We had week 2 of the market and lots of folks showed up to check out the offerings and enjoy the beautiful weather! Our seedlings are looking great and there are plenty left to fill your gardens!
I’ve spent the last week really working on bed prep (see the before and after of Harriet’s patch). Tilling, measuring, raking, broad forking, adding compost and should be able to get tomatoes and peppers in the ground soon.
It’s perfect weather to get as much planted as we can before the rain comes 🤞🏼

The market special this week is STILL AVAILABLE as well as any plants, produce or eggs you may need. Please DM for on farm pick up for the next couple of days!

A long time friend and community member was involved in a tragic accident with his partner. They are seriously injured and are in need of supernatural healing, prayers and money as they are the sole providers for their homes.

HAPPY EARTH DAY

5 years ago when I moved to the farm, Jordan and I planted an apple tree together. ❤️This year we think it’s going to have fruit!
Today, for Earth Day, Jordan planted 25 black currants.

At Regen, we believe in being stewards of the land and doing our part to take care of the little piece of Earth we inhabit. 🌎
There are trees at the farm that were planted by Jordan’s grandpa, trees he planted with his parents, trees he planted with his sister and trees we’ve planted with our kids. 🥹

We have planted trees and shrubs together every year and plan to continue till our last days on this planet. 🌳

How are you showing your love and gratitude to our beautiful home, Mother Earth?

Spring is springing- lots of budding trees and blooming flowers. We’ve been experiencing all of the best of Iowa spring- rain, cold, sun, dust storms (?), tree planting and the seasons first ramps.
I’d love to show you lots of pictures of my garden beds but it just looks like mud right now. I did include one to show our new project this year- we got rid of our raised beds and are going full standard market garden beds. I’m excited to do some proper rotation, cover crops and increase production. Each year- we find ways to get more regenerative.
The first farmers market is just less than a month away and we can’t wait to see all your smiling faces!

Tomorrow is the official first day of spring and we are feeling those vibes. Our baby chicks arrived today and are settling in nicely 🐣

The old girls have been laying lots of eggs for us and even our turkey has joined in the fun! Aren’t these speckled eggs so cool?

We are excited to offer eggs this year at the Bondurant Farmer’s Market! Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday nights soon!

THANK YOU
To the man who pulled in the driveway honking to tell me the old milking barn was on fire and that someone else already called it in!
Thank you to the Bondurant Emergency Services department for their quick action to get the fire put out before it spread across the path!
We are so grateful for everyone’s quick response 🙏🏼
Everything is fine over here, but we did lose a chainsaw to the fire 😖

Never a dull day on the farm! 🫣
