During Christmas 1953, Porter Chevrolet in Dallas Texas had a 60ft. high Santa built on their building to hold a real, brand new 1954 Chevy in his lap as an advertisement.

This giant Santa was built from steel and paper-mache by Jack Bridges who had become famous for building "Big Tex" muffler men all around the country after World War II.

Sadly, a worker installing the statue fell to his death while trying to get a photograph with the giant Santa. It was left up for the 1953 season, but never used again after.

A 12-year-old girl from Maryland has earned her “black belt” in fishing. Lucy Moore was awarded the Master Angler Award after spending a year chasing rare fish with her dad. One of the fish Moor was on the hunt for is called a Musky. Moore caught a Musky after 3 days of fishing in the rain.

Moore is also an official advocate at Kids Can Fish, a non-profit dedicated to encouraging children to fish.

A Jewish family Karnofsky, who immigrated from Lithuania to the United States, took pity on the 7-year-old boy and brought him to their home.
There he stayed and spent the night in this Jewish family home, where for the first time in his life he was treated with kindness and tenderness.
When he went to bed, Mrs. Karnovski sang him Russian lullabies, which he sang with her.
Later he learned to sing and play several Russian and Jewish songs.
Over time, this boy became the adopted son of this family.
Mr. Karnofsky gave him money to buy his first musical instrument, as was the custom in Jewish families.
Later, when he became a professional musician and composer, he used these Jewish melodies in compositions such as St. James's Hospital and Go Down Moses.
The little boy grew up and wrote a book about this Jewish family, who adopted him in 1907. And proudly spoke Yiddish fluently.
In memory of this family and until the end of his life, he wore the Star of David and said that in this family he learned "to live a real life and determination."
This little boy's name was Louis Armstrong. This little boy was called Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. Louis Armstrong proudly spoke fluent Yiddish and “Satchmo” is Yiddish for “big cheeks, a nickname some say was given to him by Mrs. Karnofsky!.

Congratulations young lady!!!

Her story began in McKinney, but we are so proud to have her as a Gunter Tiger! Zoe Ralston has been playing the viola for six years and the success that she has had will carry far into her future. Her love for playing began in a McKinney middle school and continued with the high school orchestra in the McKinney district until her family made the move to Gunter last year. Although we don't have an orchestra in our district, Zoe found a way to hold on to her passion by playing with the Arco Bello Youth Orchestra in Sherman.

Zoe competed against 83 other Violists in the TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) competition on October 21st. Her competitors were mainly from 6A schools with established orchestras, such as Allen ISD, Plano ISD, and Frisco ISD. TMEA competition operates on a blind audition system. Students are kept behind a curtain until they are called upon to play a portion of a song selected by the judges. Zoe was asked to play three times. In the end, she was the only one selected from a 3A school to advance to Regionals. This marks the 3rd time she has advanced!

Congratulations, Zoe! Your story is an inspiration and we hope you continue playing your viola for a long time.
