Got into the hives today and learned more than we bargained for šŸ˜† Beekeeping really does take a mentor. I thought I knew ā€œenoughā€. But I only know enough to get me into trouble—ha!

I wasn’t expecting to walk away with 50+ lbs of honey today. Clearly I underestimated how much honey the bees had made for winter time (we pulled about that much back in the summer!) Extracting it later in the week for probably another 4 gallons or so of honey from 2025.

Thank you for all of your mentorship and help! and I appreciated your work today!

If you ever get into bees, I assure you, having a mentor will absolutely help make your life better so you can learn hands on!

Herdshare members! We’ll have a little complimentary jar for you probably next week!

It’s that time of year! Bee time! So far it looks like all of our hives survived, though the bee count looks low on two of our hives.

Will get into the hives in the next few weeks and see what we find! Hoping we’ll get 2-4 new hives out of our current set up this year.

We have three pups left that need to be rehomed. They are Great Pyrenees/Anatolian (dam) and European Doberman (sire). Located in Culpeper/Boston VA area.

We suspect these will be great farm dogs. Two are showing some guardian characteristics already. The other has the more Doberman character qualities.

They are used to chickens, cows, and kiddos!

Reach out if interested.

(Girls are black and tan, boy is brown—8 weeks and ready to go).

Meet Victor! The newest calf in the herd. Both cows gave us little bull calves this year. That must mean we will need double the meat in 2 years! It is a blessing either way.

Our next calves are due next summer. We may also be selling a cow in milk in 2026. Stay tuned if you’re on the waiting list.

ā€œDo you have thoughts on the new regenerative ag incentives the government just announced?ā€

Of course I do. But my thoughts don’t typically come from a big farm or ag mindset. As the founder of , my thoughts come from a different alignment. Am I anti-government? No. God certainly shows there is a place for government throughout His word—of which I am a follower. Am I anti-big government and government dependency? One thousand percent.

So here’s my opinion—take it or leave it. I’m not trying to change your mind or opinion.

I don’t generally believe we should build the back bone of the American food system through government grants and incentives. The financial industry is as corrupt as everything else. There are always loop holes and stipulations. We have seen (personally) time and time again from other farmers where they take government incentives and hand outs, only for the government to come into their property and begin seeing other things that they are doing, taxing them, or telling them they can’t do it (even though they are harmless things).

I’m not saying don’t take the incentives. What I am saying is this—now more than ever, it is so important to be discerning. Because if they can give it to you, they can take it away from you. Sadly, we live in a nation where we already literally own nothing. Not even your great-grandpas farm that’s paid off if you don’t pay the outrageous amount of property tax they charge you every year.

We like to talk about what’s coming, but it’s already here. And so I say this with the most sincere heart—if you want to depend on the government for your cash flow and projects, don’t be surprised if the honey hole ends or asks you for something in return.

It’s the same mindset with land trusts and conservation easements. It’s all great…until it’s not. The end goal of the worldly systems is to own everything. The end goal for me? Push back. Own as much as we can outside of what we absolutely have to pay the government for. Provide for our community. Be wealthy outside of the world’s financial systems. And then leave a legacy to our children.

We are building something different. Will you join us?

Hello friends!

Folks in our area are once again looking for raw milk herd shares with a few local farms and homesteads getting out of raw milk. I wish that we could supply every single one of you with raw milk, but unfortunately our herd shares are completely full. Most of our families are getting 2 to 3 gallons or more at a time, so we are maxed out at capacity right now.

We highly recommend that you visit realmilk.com where you can find your most local raw milk source. On there it also tells you if the cows are grass fed or grain fed, their A2 status, and more.

Raising dairy cows is a lot of work, especially for those trying to raise little ones at home. One or two dairy cows really isn’t difficult. But when you begin getting into more than 10-20 gallons of milk going out every week, it becomes more daunting and time consuming. There are always thresholds you reach where you have to ā€œlevel upā€, and it requires all hands on deck.

If you are part of a farm share of any kind, thank your farmer! They are doing the work for very little money in some cases, but it’s because they love doing what they do, and providing for their community šŸ¤

For our current herdshare members—WE appreciate YOU! Your support helps us provide for others who truly need it!

We are way behind on harvesting our honey, but it’s happening this week šŸ™Œ This is the first year we have harvested honey from our own hives and it is so exciting. If you’re a beekeeper, you know that keeping bees alive and buzzing can be difficult. Not only did we keep both of last year’s hives alive through the winter, we were able to make two new hives off of our two main hives this year šŸ

We pulled 15 frames out to spin this week, which should give us 45-50 lbs of honey. Or, about 3 to 5 gallons.

Shout out to Pop's Bees for helping us out this year!

There is nothing sweeter than finding a sweet little calf laying in the lush grass where his mama left him. Fiori has been such a good mama to this sweet little baby that the kids and Mark have named ā€œPedroā€. Apparently our bull calves have Spanish names, and Pedro means ā€œPeterā€.

He will sustain our family with beef for another year, that is, unless someone REALLY wants him as a herd sire. But it’ll take a special person for me to let him go.

He is a blessing on this farm, the image of future abundance, and also teaches us patience. Slow food is good food.

We are patiently awaiting the arrival of Fiori’s second calf (her first here on the farm). She was bred to a NZ genetics grass fed jersey bull named Beledene Dukes Landy of Sedalia — a prodigy of the original Duke’s Landy, who was the most popular grass fed jersey bull years and years ago.

We’ve been delighted with how Esther, one of his other daughters here on the farm, has turned out. So we decided to rebreed Fiori and Hazel to him again this year.

Moving into next year’s calvings, we will have heritage grass genetics Milking Shorthorn sires, which I’m excited about. This particular sire for next year will be Cantegree Felipe, from native lines out of Utah. He will add some structure and stature to our jersey lines, as well as homestead milk production, and longer life expectancy. The ultimate homestead family milk cow. We’re honored you trust us with your breedings for your future milk cows!

Notice that most of these jersey girls aren’t a standard large size. True jerseys are a true midsize to smaller framed. This is what we aim for here—go back to basics! A manageable sized family milk cow.
