ππ Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danishes ππ
These little heart-shaped danishes always make me smile. Theyβre the kind of treat Iβd make on a slow morning when Lila was still in her pajamas, sneaking strawberries off the cutting board. Flaky, creamy, and just sweet enough , they feel like love you can bake.
π Ingredients:
Danish Pastry
1 sheet store-bought puff pastry, thawed
(In a pinch: 2 sheets crescent roll dough β texture will be softer)
4 oz cream cheese, room temperature
2 tbsp granulated sugar
Β½ tsp vanilla extract
Red food coloring (optional, just 1β2 drops)
Β½ cup fresh strawberries, diced
1 large egg
1 tbsp cold water
Optional Finish
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Simple glaze: Β½ cup powdered sugar + 1β2 tbsp milk
π₯£ Directions:
Thaw puff pastry according to package directions. Preheat oven to 400Β°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add a tiny drop of food coloring if using.
Fold in half of the diced strawberries; set remaining strawberries aside for topping.
Lightly roll pastry on a floured surface to smooth creases. Cut into heart shapes using a 3β4 inch cutter.
Create a border by lightly pressing a smaller heart in the center or scoring a Β½-inch edge (do not cut through).
Spoon 1β2 tablespoons cream cheese filling into the center of each heart. Top with remaining strawberries.
Whisk egg and cold water. Brush edges of pastry with egg wash.
Bake 12β15 minutes, until puffed and golden.
Cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle glaze if desired.
