Brattleboro Food Co-op

Brattleboro Food Co-op The Brattleboro Food Co-op is your community-owned downtown marketplace & deli, providing Southern Vermont with healthy food choices since 1975. Welcome!

The Brattleboro Food Co-op was formed in 1975 as a small buying club. Today, the Co-op is a 14,580 square foot natural foods market and deli on the ground floor of a four-story building that also includes Co-op offices, a commissary kitchen, a cooking classroom, and 24 apartments. This beautiful downtown anchor building is a result of a collaboration with the Windham and Windsor Housing Trust and

Housing Vermont, with many environmentally friendly features, including utilizing refrigeration waste heat to heat apartments and the store, solar panels on the roof, and many more. The current store opened for business in June of 2012. The Co-op is community-owned, with over 8,000 active shareholders, and our goal is to be as accessible and responsive to you as possible. We strive to provide you with quality foods at reasonable prices, in a relaxed and friendly environment. Our staff is knowledgeable and eager to help shoppers in any way that they can. We are located in southeastern Vermont, just over the Massachusetts and New Hampshire borders. Our community offers beautiful Vermont countryside, a lively cultural scene, and easy access to skiing, hiking and other outdoor activities. The Brattleboro Food Co-op places a strong emphasis on supporting local producers. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to develop personal relationships with local farmers and businesses, and we enjoy introducing their products to our customers. Our "Producer of the Month" program highlights local growers and vendors in an effort to strengthen our local economy and promote the value of buying locally. Through charitable giving, Co-op sponsored events, classes, and programs, we strive to build relationships within our community. We offer nutrition classes in our local school systems and recently launched a "Healthy Snack Program" which provides a way for teachers to introduce nutritious snacks into their classrooms.

Who likes hyper local cheese and unusual pairings? Beth, our Cheese Department Manager, is putting together a wild, wacky class that will include setting cheese on fire to create a cheese Crème Brûlée, and pairing cheese with sour candy, kimchi, and more. It's going to be a spectacular class and will feature some really rare local cheeses like those from The Goat Project. The Goat Project produces cheese from their 12 goats right over in Bennington. Their chèvre is pictured here, but they also have a really interesting feta, which has fruity, lemony notes. It's crumbly and the flavor is delightfully complex for a new, fresh cheese.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Pie Festival on August 16th!!! We wish we had more photos, but the place was PACKED. The pie was flying out of the tins and we were running around baking and scooping and chatting and baking more and scooping more and chatting more. We hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as Jeremiah did, as evidenced by this photo.

Many of you were wondering about the amazing Banoffee pie, lovingly created by our Marketing Manager, Ruth. It was adapted from the following recipe:

https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/banoffee-pie/

We did accidentally double the butter in the graham cracker crust, which was perhaps a happy accident. They were also honey graham crackers!!

Enjoy and we'll see you at Pie Fest 2027!!!!

Here is Jordan reminding you that you have ONE WEEK left to use your one-time 20% off meat and seafood coupon!!

There is still time to become a shareholder in order to take advantage of this sale, which just involves a one-time payment and is actually the purchase of equity in this community-owned business, rather than a membership fee! Since the Brattleboro Food Co-op is owned by people like you, who live here, or at least spend a lot of time here, a MUCH greater percentage of the money that is made here stays in this community.

Plus our meat buyer works really hard to put as many local and ethically sourced products in these coolers as possible. Bravo to the Meat & Seafood team!

We love supporting super high quality food in all arenas and we're always honored and really happy when people making super high quality food choose to source with us. This is Leda Scheintaub of Leda’s Kitchen, one of our long-time local Brattleboro food figures, shopping for her next batch of Saag Paneer. Leda is incredibly sweet and is offering a special coupon to Co-op shoppers.

Leda brings depth of flavor to our local food community, drawing on her background as a private chef, cookbook author and co-owner of Dosa Kitchen for a decade. Every week, she crafts a new menu of globally inspired, mostly gluten-free heat-and-eat meals—think complex curries, comforting stews, and nourishing soups designed to make weeknight dinners effortless.

What we love most? Leda sources high-quality, local, and organic ingredients right from our shelves to build those complex, scratch-made flavors, meaning you get a full circle of community from our aisles straight to your table.

Use code CO-OP to take 10% off your first order at www.ledaskitchen.com.

Orders are open through Tuesdays at 7:00 PM for Thursday pickups (with Friday and Saturday options as well).

Fat and the Moon is a skincare company (whose products are on sale through the 18th!!) that makes everything by hand to order. This is a pretty big deal in skincare, which is something we don't often think of as "perishable". Shelf lives are real because you don't want the stuff you are putting on your face to be old and rotten, on the most fundamental level.

One of the many other special things about this company is the quality and variety of their products. If you are ever feeling overwhelmed by the variety please, please, please chat with one of our amazing Wellness associates. We are regularly stunned by their level of knowledge and if they don't know something, they are happy to figure it out.

Here is Jennifer showing off some Fat and the Moon face masks, which come dry and can be rehydrated in a variety of ways. And then some photos of the Fat and the Moon workshop. Photo credits to Hayley Harper of Hayley Harper Photography, based in Albuquerque, NM.

Here are some words about these masks from Jojo, another incredible member of the Wellness Team:

"When adding only water, you get the exact benefits of the ingredients inside the mask. However, using a toner or hydrosol increases the benefits because you are adding more ingredients. For example if you used their Sage & Rose Face Mist you would add that product's benefits, which include hydration, plumping, balancing, and refreshment. Because it also contains jojoba oil it supports the skin barrier, making it a great addition for someone with sensitive skin. Another benefit of using toner or hydrosols to hydrate powder masks is that you are doing double duty in one step. Lastly, it allows you to customize and tailor the experience for exactly what your skin needs in that moment. In the winter it is especially wonderful to really add in extra hydration because, while clays pull impurities to the surface, the different oils and such are able to pe*****te more deeply by allowing the mask to dry. It is important to note that with all clay masks, once they dry, it's time to remove them. You can gently wipe it away with a lukewarm cloth. Leaving a clay mask on past its prime can negate the positive effects and rubbing it off too harshly can irritate the skin you just soothed."

Our café is open and ready for you, as are our bathrooms. Hurray for things being fixed! 💚💚💚💚 See you soon.
