Since I have been dragging you all along with my preg tox journey, I'm going to keep giving updates and maybe it can also help others learn as well.
Tonight I am down to two kids, a buck and a doe. The buck ( #3) is the third one I pulled and the doe ( #4) was the biggest and the last.
The other buck ( #1) and doe ( #2) kid were fine, they were all fine and doing well when I walked away. When I came back a couple hours later, I found a buck and a doe kid dead. Somehow, they must've fallen on each other and got tangled up and probably suffocated each other. I have to keep reminding myself, they are 14 days early. They don't have the greatest coordination and strength to get themselves out of a mess that lead to their demise. I'm lucky they were alive when this delivery started.
#3 buck kid is having trouble with his temperature. I've gotten him warmed up and fed so we will see what the night brings.
#4 doe kid is doing well, she's fiesty and really takes a bottle. Obviously, she has the best chance to survive.
Their mother is holding her own. Unfortunately, she has not cleaned, which is typical with all this mess. We are working on it very gently as she is still fragile. Thankfully, she is drinking and eating a little. She hates to be drenched and is a real fighter but I still need to force fluids. Her temp is normal, she's had anitibiotics, b comp, banamine, oxytocin and lutalyse.
Wish us luck!

My doe with pregnancy toxemia dropped her ketones and I was thrilled with how that was working but she surprised me last night when I got home as she was in labor. Bloody mucous and a small amniotic sac were visible. I quickly gathered my supplies and palpated. She wasn’t dilating and I was surprised to feel a nose just a couple inches in. I was sure I’d be helping deliver dead kids. Much to my surprise, the first one was alive and hollering. This gave me hope. I proceeded to deliver 3 more live kids!
These kids are exactly 2 weeks early and very good sized. I can see why their mama didn’t feel very good. She is holding her own this morning and very happy to be able to eat.
Kids are doing well but it will be touch and go for awhile.
Wish us all luck!!

Iykyk, I knew the look!
I didn’t need these ketone strips to confirm but they sure help.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had to deal with this and it’s sure been nice.
The project begins…
***I’ve had may people ask what this is. This doe has pregnancy toxemia. I know many people associate preg tox with the fatter show doe type but it’s also very important to keep an eye on the ones at the low end of the pecking order which is the case with this doe. She is at 133 days so we have a ways to go and I hope I can get her turned around.
