Our Story
Peterson's Ponies & Registered Haflingers is a family run operation. Paul and Marsha along with their daughters, son in laws, and grand kids, together we all enjoy the Haflinger breed, rather it be riding or driving these beautiful ponies!! At Peterson's Ponies & Registered Haflingers we breed, raise ,and train our ponies to the best of our ability, we train for riding, and driving, & enjoying. We use our Haflingers for many farm related tasks such as: discing, plowing, hauling manure, seeding, mowing, dragging, (other activities), parades, sleigh rides, wagon rides, trail riding, & showing, just to mention a few. We all got started with ponies at a young age, Grandpa Peterson always farmed with horses, and never got it out of his system, well neither did we. Grandpa purchased some Shetland ponies and everyone just loved going to ride and drive the ponies. Years later we heard about this great new breed of pony, THE HAFLINGER, we immediately fell in love with their conformation, personalities, and the calm nature that they are well known for. We purchased our first Haflingers in 1994, and as they say the rest is history!! Our Haflingers are the older drafty style of Haflinger. Our family is now in our 5th generation of working with horses. We specialize in breeding & finding forever loving homes for our beautiful Haflinger foals.

Wanted: kid safe horse! Arizona
My children are 6, 8, 10 and 12 years old. They all desire to have and ride a horse! I owned and rode horses for 10 years before I had children. So I am very familiar with them though it has been a few years since I have cared for them. We live in a small town with 5 acres, and right next to the national Forest. We home school and have a small farm with goats, a cow, chickens, and rabbits. We may get another horse so that we have another for the children and so the horse has a companion, but for now we are going to start with one and our gentle milk cow can be the companion. We have been saving and preparing for the last two years to get a horse and the time has finally come!
Following is a list categorized by "must-haves" in a horse and "negotiables."
This horse must:
Horse must be absolutely kid safe, bomb proof, no spook. Something that they can climb all over and it doesn't mind being fussed with by a bunch of little kids and adoring girls who want to scramble onto it ba****ck and braid it's mane and tail.
The horse must not be older than 15 yrs old. I want something that still has some time in it and that something the kids can grow up with.
Horse must be sound, with no history of foundering or other health problems.
No Arabians.
Horse must be accustomed to trails and being out of an arena. The horse must also know how to lope around an arena happily. We have a large arena in town and they often do small rodeos and gymkhana events that we hope be a apart of.
We will have an arena but most of the area around us is dirt roads and national forest.
Negotiables:
I prefer geldings but will consider a mare.
I prefer a Halflinger, though will consider other breeds.
I prefer something that is under 15 hands but will consider something bigger, but no ponies- I want to be able to get on a horse again too :-)
I prefer any color other than chestnut or sorrel, though will consider those colors.
It is preferable that the horse has had experience with cows. Or at least has been around them as we have a mini milk cow.
Our budget is on the lower end, though we would consider something higher.
We will want to come and see and try the horse out possibly multiple times as we see this as a lifelong decision. The seller must provide a vet's certificate of health.
What we would really love to do, is be able to take on some other child's horse when they are ready to move on to something younger, or someone's grandchild who has outgrown the horse.
We would love anyone who sees this wanted ad, to see us as the next, best, most perfect home that their horse could go to.
This horse will have more love than it can handle from myself, our children, their cousins, and their best friends who all live in the neighborhood.
Please consider us and let us know if you think you have a horse that would be a perfect fit for our family.
Are you ok after the derecho? Very concerned!!
