🐝 There’s so much more buzzing than just the bees.

Around every corner, something new is blooming. Wildflowers are putting on a show, the garden is thriving, fruit is ripening, butterflies are fluttering, and the bees are busy doing what they do best. On the ridge, the smell of honey fills the air!

And if you look closely… you’ll catch a little sneak peek of our campsite too. We’re putting the finishing touches on creating a peaceful place to slow down, enjoy nature, and experience life at a different pace.

We have a limited amount of small-batch Buzz on the Point honey available! Each harvest can vary slightly in color and flavor depending on what the bees have been working, and that’s part of what makes local honey so special.

Today we’re celebrating the tiny pollinators that do some of the biggest work on the planet. From wildflowers and gardens to the food on our tables, bees help keep our world blooming.

At Buzz on the Point, we’re grateful for every buzzing bee, every hive, every jar of small-batch honey, and every person supporting local beekeeping along the way. 💛

As a small-scale beekeeping farm, we offer our honey in small, single-hive batches as it’s harvested throughout the year. That means each batch may feature different colors, flavors, and nectar sources depending on what’s blooming in their flight paths. BONUS…It also means small batches throughout the season! 🌼

🍯 “Did you know bees are tiny alchemists?✨

Believe it or not, every jar in this picture came from the same top bar hive, harvested on the same day this past weekend… from just two separate bars of comb that were side by side.

Honey color can vary dramatically depending on:
🌼 The flowers currently blooming
🌳 Tree nectar sources
☀️ Weather conditions
💧 Moisture content in nectar
🐝 What the bees were foraging on (their tiny taste buds vary just like ours)

Lighter honeys are often mild, floral, and delicate, while darker honeys tend to have richer, bolder, more complex flavors — but every batch is unique to the bees and the season.

That’s one of the coolest things about raw, small-batch honey:
🍯 No two harvests are exactly alike.

This is also why we love our top bar hive so much — you can truly see the natural variation from comb to comb.

Langstroth vs. Top Bar Hives

Ever wondered why some of our hives look like stacked boxes… while others look long and horizontal? Let’s break it down…

🏠 Langstroth Hive (The “Stacked Classic”)

🔲 Design: Vertical boxes stacked on top of each other
🧱 Frames: Removable wooden frames inside each box
🍯 Honey Production: HIGH (beekeeper-friendly for harvesting)
🔍 Inspections: Easy—frames slide out individually

👉 These are the most common hives in the U.S. and what you see in most commercial apiaries.

🌿 Top Bar Hive (The “Natural Builder”)

📏 Design: Long, horizontal box
🍯 Comb Style: Bees build free-hanging comb from bars (no full frames!)
🐝 Bee Behavior: More natural comb building
🤲 Inspections: More delicate—comb isn’t reinforced

👉 Think of this as a more “back-to-basics” beekeeping style.

Spring = GROWTH in the apiary!

We’ve successfully completed TWO hive splits—both from our adopted hives 💛

That means:
👑 New queens
🐝 New colonies
🌱 Big things happening behind the scenes

👀 We’re not revealing the new hive names just yet… but a fun reveal is coming soon!

The frame in this picture is packed with beautiful, capped honey—each of those sealed cells is ripened nectar that the bees have dried down and preserved for food.

🍯 Fun fact: Bees cap honey with a thin layer of wax only after it reaches the perfect moisture level (around 18% or less), which helps prevent fermentation and keeps it shelf-stable… basically forever!

This is one of the signs of a strong, productive hive heading into spring 🌼

We checked on one of our hives today here at Lake Cumberland that we split just 10 days ago…

…and guess what?

👑 She made it. The new queen is on her way!

The walk-away hive successfully raised their own queen—and we got to spot her during today’s inspection 💛

If you’ve never seen this before, it’s incredible:
The worker bees choose a larva, feed it royal jelly, and create a queen completely on their own.

📸 In this moment:
• A queen cell (that peanut-shaped structure!)
• A few wandering drones
• And a whole team of busy nurse bees caring for the future of the hive

This is the kind of real, hands-on beekeeping happening right here in Pulaski County—and it’s exactly what our Adopt-a-Hive members get to be part of 🍯

That’s beekeeper talk for turning one hive into two (because these ladies are thriving 💪)
