No 👀🫒— extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) by itself does not inherently cause weight gain when used in moderation.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲:

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 – EVOO is calorie-dense (about 120 calories per tablespoon), so overconsumption can contribute to weight gain, but moderate use as part of a balanced diet does not.

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐬– EVOO is rich in monounsaturated fats, which have been linked to improved heart health, better cholesterol levels, and reduced inflammation.

𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 – The healthy fats in EVOO can make meals more satisfying, potentially reducing overeating later.

𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞– Large studies show that even diets high in EVOO (like the Mediterranean diet) are associated with weight stability or even modest weight loss, likely because the oil replaces less healthy fats and promotes better overall eating habits.
