It is with great sadness that The Learning Garden says "Goodbye" to a friend, mentor and incredible soul. Rest in peace Remy 😇 We can't "Thank You" enough for your generosity and knowledge. Your seeds will continue to grow and flourish in our seed banks.
All of our thoughts and prayers to her friends and family. Remy will be forever missed and remembered dearly. 🙏 🥦🍅🥒🏵🌼

Just because....
Our cucumbers are doing great!! A batch of pickles are back at SUNY Erie and we're ready for another.
Though commonly thought to be a vegetable, cucumber is actually a fruit.
It's high in beneficial nutrients, as well as certain plant compounds and antioxidants that may help treat and even prevent some conditions.
Also, cucumbers are low in calories and contain a good amount of water and soluble fiber, making them ideal for promoting hydration and aiding in weight loss.
Garlic time!
Garlic belongs to the genus Allium and is closely related to the onion, rakkyo (an onion found in Asia), scallion, chive, leek, and shallot. It has been used by humans for thousands of years and was used in Ancient Egypt for both culinary purposes and its health and therapeutic benefits.
"Gardening is about enjoying the smell of things growing in the soil, getting dirty without feeling guilty, and generally taking the time to soak up a little peace and serenity." ~ Lindley Karsten

I'm proud to say this super smart, kind and hilariously funny lady is a friend of The Learning Garden. Remy has not to miss a year yet. We're so thankful for her knowledge, visits and wonder collection of seeds. We can't thank her enough!!!
Pesto time! Look at that basil.
So people have been asking about us.... I like it. We appreciate you. Here you go this is what The Learning Garden has been up to. Our cabbage patch is super happy, our garlic is beautiful, some Romanesco🥦 for the first time, a 5 gallon bucket of pickles at least 😉, check out those leeks (eeks👀), so many herbs 🌱 and finally the students planting the nasturtiums🏵️. We've been busy for sure but with the addition of a water hose this year life on the Learning Garden is WAY less stressful. 💯👍
AND.....The sunflowers are back. 🌻🌻🌻
Summer is definitely in bloom
What a fun morning with the awesome students from Waterfront Elementary painting Buffalo Sweet Rocks and learning about how cool bees are

Thank you Shane Spencer of Spencer's Property Management for the soil donation and delivery. Our blueberries have a new home and are happier than ever! The Learning Garden appreciates you!!
As session ll comes to a close we headed out of the garden for some service learning. The students harvested cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, eggplant, hot banana peppers and herbs. Along with a well received pot made by Mean Muggin716 filled with kale, arugula, and hot banana pepper plants, the students presented them to the Firehouse on Ellicott St. Engine 1, Ladder 2. The students and firefighters discussed how to maintain the edible pot and ideas for the produce. After we headed to Fireman's Park for a clean up. I can't believe how fast and successful this summer has been. We're so proud.
