The pallet coop is finally done and moved into position. 🙌🏼 Now to build the run 😩.

The plan is to have the chicks in the run until they’re old enough to free range, at which point we’ll move them back down near the house to manage all bugs over here. When we had chickens and ducks free ranging at our property in NC, we noticed a significant decrease in the amount of spiders and other creepy crawlers around the house, so I’m really hoping they do the same for us here 🙏🏼.

We also plan to get some guinea fowl, and eventually (hopefully) some Indian runner ducks, but we’re not quite there yet 😅.

Mose back at it with the death nap. ☠️💤

Caught him deep in the middle of REM sleep before we cleaned trays this morning. I wonder what he was dreaming about? 🤔 Maybe he was reliving his glory days of when he won Best Junior Buck and Best Opposite of Breed at the show.🏅
He’s quite a handsome buck and such a sweet boy! We absolutely adore him, and we’re really hoping his kits end up with his temperament and conformation 🧬🤞🏼🙏🏼.

Today’s farm priority: sheep pedicures. 🐑💅

The service was free and unappreciated. The lambs rated the experience 0 out of 5 stars, would not recommend.

Unfortunately for them, this will most likely not be their last time. Hooves need to be trimmed in order to keep the sheep’s natural gait, prevent bacterial infections, and to prevent lameness, but how often really all depends on breed, genetics, environment, and diet. Some folks never trim, and others trim every 8 weeks. We’ve noticed that our wool sheep (Shetlands and Babydoll Southdown) require more frequent hoof trimming than our hair sheep (Barbados Blackbelly), but because our ground is soft (think red clay), they all require trimmings at least 2-3 times a year.

Poor Remi girl 🥺.

Found this girl with a very swollen eye while doing evening chores. Not sure what got her, we’re thinking maybe it’s a bee sting, but we’ll be monitoring it to make sure it’s not anything more significant.

The sky these past few nights has been incredible!

The first two pics are of a storm rolling in just as we finished Ryker’s baseball game, and the following two pics are of the night sky view from our porch ✨🌌.

POV: you hired a barn cat and he actually showed up to work (today).

Luca is back at with the solid work-play balance. He caught a mouse, played with it like it was his favorite toy, and then housed it. 🐭🍽️

Farm life isn’t always pretty, but this is exactly why we keep good barn cats around.

Employee of the month award goes to Luca. 🐈‍⬛🏆

Watching Remi mature as a livestock guardian dog has been such a joy 🥹! She has a quiet confidence about her—a calm, steady presence completely unbothered by the little things. As she’s grown, she’s become more discerning in her threat assessments, knowing exactly when something deserves her attention and when it doesn’t. When she does alert, we listen. Her instincts are spot on!

We’ve been working her with the sheep as often as we can, and she continues to impress us with how she carries herself around them. She recognizes the need to appear nonthreatening and shows them deference in order to gain their trust. It is truly amazing to watch her in action.

What makes her even more special is how incredible she is with our boys. She is endlessly patient, gentle, and protective. She is exactly as we hoped she’d be!
We absolutely adore her and couldn’t be happier with the intelligence, temperament, and instincts she continues to develop. Remi is truly coming into her own, and we are so proud of the guardian she is becoming. 🐾🩷

🐑🐑🐑

Our wooly mamas and their precious babies 🥹🤗💕.

Featured in this video:
🫐 Blueberry- our oldest and sweetest ewe, and her twins Yin and Yang.
👑 Lady BaaBaa- our big diva, her yearling ewe Patti LaBaaBaa, and her ram lamb Theodore (Teddy).
👻 Ghostface- Aggressive Strawberry’s daughter but surprisingly very sweet, and her ram lamb Marshmallow.
🐄 MooCow- Blueberry’s daughter with the coolest markings. She’s our shy girl and a young mama to an adorable little ewe lamb named Pearl.

This group of lambs is surprisingly big, but I guess that’s to be expected when their daddy is our big babydoll ram, Prince 😅.

Bear and Remi had their follow-up vet appointments today, and as it turns out, they put on another 10 lbs since their last visit in January 😳.

Bear is now 163 lbs and Remi is 155 lbs. They’ll be 16 months old in June. Insane!

Bear has barely been eating because it’s so dang hot out, so I’m honestly shocked he put on weight at all. I’m even more shocked that they weighed more this time around because I could have sworn I brushed about 10 lbs of fur off of them each while they were blowing their winter coats 😅!

Also, please ignore how dirty they are, it’s been raining for a week straight and they prefer lying in the mud to lying in their nice clean shelters 😩.

Pics of the goodest boy and the goodest girl 💕.
