Meet Crossbeak Carrie, aka CC.

She will never be in any programs BUT she is so sweet. Her defect doesn’t effect the way she eats, drink, her day to day life and no one picks on her - she simply has a cross-beak or as some call is scissors beak.

She has a ton of personality, super lovey and loves to see us coming every morning. As long as her defect doesn’t interfere with her quality of life she’ll live her life out as a pet amongst a couple other misfit birds

Let’s talk about it. The silkie community.

You have to start somewhere & sometimes breeders who have been in the game for years - I’m talking 10, 20, 30 years make it hard for newbies coming into it. (Please know it is not ALL of them) It’s almost like the intimidation vs the excitement to see the community grow is winning. Maybe even feeling more like a competition instead of a community?

We know we have a lot to learn, but at the end of the day we are allowed to love these birds too.
Our goal is simply to get a SOP bloodline of our own.

Some of us are working hard! Reading, learning, hatching, growing out, creating pens, starting new projects - literally every free minute we have. Please be kind and patient with us, and remind yourself that, you TOO had to start somewhere. No need to rip our birds to shreds, in a public setting vs a private conversations. No need to make us feel silly and little because you know more, you charge more, you show more. If you want to share knowledge please do it. Especially to me. I want to learn, and learning from long term breeders is priceless knowledge in my opinion.

Teaching them young the importance of harvesting what and when you can 🌻

Our little sunflower field is multi-purpose for our family. I use it in my photography world, and we’d harvest the seeds to plant next years field AND make snacks for the chickens …… plus I just like looking at them 🤣

Now I must confess, I also brought home TWO beautiful fluff balls from the show this weekend. Shout out to Bearded Lady ...
