When the mama's start to naturally wean off their kids by disallowing them to nurse, that's my signal to separate out the kids and do a full wean.

They yell, yammer on, and get uncomfortable for a couple days before things calm down. The kids not nursing also signal the does udders to slow/stop milk production and start their drying off process.

Soon they'll all be off to their new homes!

They can be little savages at times, as goats are known to be.. but the other 98% of the time they're so peaceful and enjoyable to just watch them browse ❤️

Tell me when you see them 😊

All of the kids are in that 2-3 weeks old age, and their little horn nubbies are starting to develop!

Goats utilize their horns to help control their body temperature. A process called Vascularization that allows blood to move around to either be cooled or warmed.

Hot goat? The blood moves into the horn to be 'air chilled'.

Cold goat? The blood retracts into the head to avoid air circulation thus keeping them warmer.
