All milk deliveries will be delayed today due to the passing of our very first and most loved cow.

Please allow us grace as this is extremely painful and hard for us. We wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for Moo.

Please have texts and emails turned on so you'll be notified once the milk is dropped off at your locations.

Mohair comes from Angora goats and they are typically sheared twice a year. Their fiber is known for being incredibly strong, shiny and soft.

And yes, we process mohair right here at the mill too!

It's pretty cool getting to raise the animal AND see what that fiber can eventually become.

They all have completely different personalities. Some are sweet, some are needy, some are stubborn as hell and some wake up and choose violence in the milk room.

But I know every one of them. I know their habits, their moods and usually what they're going to do before they do it.

These girls are a huge part of why I love what we do.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing fiber go from a dirty fleece straight off the animal to something you can actually make with.

There is A LOT of work that happens between those two things, but seeing the finished product makes it pretty damn cool.

One thing people don't always realize about a small dairy is how much planning goes into keeping milk available every week.

Breeding, calving, dry periods, feed, pasture, production... we're constantly looking months ahead and figuring out what the herd needs next.

These girls aren't just “the cows.” We know who gives what, who likes to cause problems, who walks into the milk room like she owns the place and who needs approximately 47 minutes of convincing.

A lot happens behind the scenes before that jar of milk ever makes it into your fridge.
