Iowa Dairy Princess

Iowa Dairy Princess The Iowa Dairy Princess is a goodwill ambassador for the dairy industry and Iowa’s dairy farmers.

The Iowa Dairy Princess serves as a goodwill ambassador for Iowa's dairy farmers. During her reign, she makes public appearances and serves as a spokesperson, communicating the dedication of dairy farm families to their cows and the land. She also shares information about dairy foods and their role in a healthy diet. Dairy Princesses are selected on the basis of their communication skills, persona

lity, general knowledge of the dairy industry and its products, and their commitment to dairy promotion. The program gives young women the opportunity to represent the lifestyle in which they were raised. Iowa Dairy Princess candidates and the state's county dairy princesses, are daughters of dairy farmers, employees of dairy farms, or daughters of dairy farm employees. Many princesses volunteer their time locally; some receive stipends for their work. The Iowa Dairy Princess is supported by Midwest Dairy through its dairy farmer funding. The crown and sash worn by a dairy princess make it easy for the public to identify who she is and what she represents. Once she has their attention, information about the dairy industry, such as the pride dairy farmers have for producing wholesome products, and dairy's importance to Iowa's economy, is easy for a princess to share. Today Kelsey and Alia attended cheese curd fest at WW Homestead Dairy. While there, they read trivia questions and hosted a cheese curd throwing contest. It was a great time! The highlight of their day was trying cinnamon roll cheese curds! This combination features deep fried cheese curds covered in cinnamon sugar and frosting! Yum! 😋

Make sure to stop by WW Homestead Dairy in Waukon to try all their delicious products!

Also while in Western Iowa, Kelsey visited the Hy-Vee in Spencer where she had a dairy trivia wheel with prizes as well as cookies and milk samples.

A special bonus on her trip was partaking in WIDA’s Coffee Crawl where she made a special stop at Medlar Coffee and tried their Tiramisu Latte which she highly recommends!

Kelsey was busy this week in Western Iowa!

She started with stopping in at KICD radio station to record an interview for June Dairy Month!

Then, she headed to Van Ess dairy to attend the Western Iowa Dairy Alliance Open house. Here, she helped out at the kids tent making a ration (trail mix!) for the visitors. She also had an interview with the local radio to help promote the event.

The day was filled with a lot of fun activities, learning, and so much dairy!

Thank you to everyone who attended and WIDA for inviting me to attend!

Youth are one of the most important parts of our industry. They are the next generation of learners, leaders, and achievers. This dairy month, we want to recognize those who have aspirations to be the next generation of advocates!

Our first Future Iowa Dairy Princess Feature is
✨🐄MARIA🐄✨

Maria is eleven and will be a sixth grader at Oskaloosa Christian School this fall. They currently milk 115-120 cows. Her favorite parts of the farm are feeding the calves, riding in the chopper with Dad, and helping Mom and Dad teach others about our dairy farm!

We had so much fun meeting Maria and talking to her about her dairy farm! We wish you the best Maria and we hope to see you in a crown and sash of your own someday!

Do you know someone who is passionate about dairy and hopes to be an Iowa Dairy Princess one day? Reach out to us and we will try to highlight them this June Dairy Month!
