Have you ever had one of those days where you actually feel like you got ahead, even if it was just by a centimeter?
Today was one of those days for me.
We did final assessments on the lambs today. I’ve been tracking different traits all summer, and today we took weights, checked feet, and assessed potential parasite loads.
The ewe lambs we thought might make perfect additions to our flock truly delivered. It’s pretty rewarding to see some of the decisions we made starting to pay off.
I’ll be honest, I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to implement all the changes I wanted to this summer. There were things I had hoped to accomplish that just didn’t happen. But the changes we were able to make have started showing results, and that feels like a victory.
And maybe the biggest victory of all today?
I was able to get up and down and trim everyone’s feet with about a month left to go.
Sheep will humble you really quick, they have a funny way of teaching you that progress doesn’t always come in big, obvious leaps. Sometimes it’s a centimeter at a time. Sometimes it’s simply looking back and realizing that the things you’ve been working on all summer are finally starting to show.
Today, I’ll take that centimeter.
