Marc Brady, PGA professional from the Links O’ Tryon here with some thoughts for those of you who are working on your golf swing.
QUESTION- Do you try to improve by focusing on body positions or by trying to get the club to move a certain way? Both ways can produce good results but I offer that a combination of both philosophies will help most players.

Remember that the one paramount position is IMPACT! ( everything one works on should be geared toward improving impact and ball flight!
IMPACT IS =
Hands ahead of clubhead, knees leaning toward the target, hips slightly open, shoulders more closed than the hips, trail arm under the lead arm and a ‘posted’ lead leg…it looks like a reverse “K” when looking in a mirror.

DRILL- Try this: Practice holding that position for several seconds & then recreate that feel to help train that position.
When focusing on how the club is moving to achieve optimum impact try to get the club to swing to the impact position by swinging into an impact bag ( or a duffel bag filled with towels)

Hold that position and you will see & feel that reverse “K”.. feel how that club head swings into the bag! Check out the great instructional book written by Earnest Jones .. “ Swing the Clubhead” …for more on how the club moves.

So, is it more important to work on body positions or how the club moves .. I say it’s both!

The club is hosting several events this weekend & early next week that showcases how our wonderful game of golf appeals to so many. Yesterday we hosted the Landrum HS Booster club to help raise funds for their teams and hosted by the football staff.
Monday we host the the SCGA Juniors in the “Hootie Tour” .. we love seeing the juniors!
Finally, on Tuesday it’s our turn to host the Interclub Seniors group of which the Links is a member club. Young, mature & fundraising groups enjoying our great game & our fun course! It’s work for our staff but it’s a labor of love!
Note: we will be open for play on Monday & Tuesday after each event.

The greens aerification is complete and we will have all 18 open Thursday ( tomorrow) we used the small tines so they look great! More water tonight & a fresh mowing in the morning and you hardly notice the work! Come on out and play with us!

Our Ladies are really playing some great golf this summer .. first Jennifer Grabosky had her career round of 69 several weeks ago, then Jacqueline Wasniewski had her best, an 80 last week and today Debbie Huff had her career best with a 7 birdie round of 68!

We are all saddened by the death of Tom Heavey. Thete will be a visitation this Sunday @ Petty Funeral Home from 5 to 7 pm
Services are on Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Tryon on Monday @ 3:30 with a celebration of life at the Landrum train station following the church service.
Tom will be missed by all who knew or met him. He loved his golf & people like no other.
RIP our dear friend!
