🌟NEW🌟
BLACKBERRY + GOAT CHEESE FLATBREAD

Of course it’s full of organic and locally grown ingredients: house-made maple sausage, grilled onions, melty goat cheese, jalapeños, & balsamic glaze. But the real star is the house-made ✨blackberry preserves!✨

The preserves started on a small family farm out of Perryville, MO, where Jim Kiefer has kept going what his father began over 30 years ago. Using organic practices to grow their blackberries and raise their honeybees. Organic growing isn’t often easy, but we are thankful for their time, effort, & care that the Kiefer family puts into raising these berries.

So now we can bring a product we trust, from a farmer we know, to all of you. Using the time honored method of preserving a harvest through canning, we’re able to serve up these tasty blackberries not only on menu, but also in our market, long past their season.

Come try a flatbread and buy a pint to take home and pair with a toasty piece of sourdough!🥖

Beef. It’s what’s for dinner.

We believe it needs to be not only American raised beef, but clean, as well.

That’s why we’ve partnered with two great Midwest farms:

-Diamond I Cattle Co. (Crane, Missouri)
Grass-finished South Poll cattle raised with continuous mob-grazing (à la Greg Judy). Riley and her dad invest heavily in top-quality forages and cover crops year-round. We’ve tasted a lot of grass-finished beef… and nobody does it better.

- Kilgus Farmstead (Fairbury, Illinois)
Primarily a dairy operation that finishes its own Jersey-cross steers on their own non-GMO grains and silage in a tight, sustainable closed loop. They already supply top Chicago chefs and restaurants with gourmet farm-to-fork beef — and we have that same quality here.

Just two farms. Animals identified. Raised sustainably.

We’re bringing some of the best beef the Midwest has to offer to our little corner of downtown Cape.

It's what brings our burgers to life!

You can also get our beef:
---Packaged and frozen in our meat freezer
---Frank can cut custom butcher orders or get in special orders
---Steak plates on the menu (or off-menu if you prefer)

Where’s the beef? Right here at Green’s Garden — for you.

Have you had a Green Chicken Wrap yet?

Local grilled pastured chicken, pesto, rainbow slaw, grilled corn relish, herb cheese, pickled onion, and fire-roasted dressing - in a homemade sourdough whole wheat Wrap.

It’s become one of our favorites — fresh, colorful, and full of good things from the garden and the farms we trust.

Eat something better for lunch.

Eggs are important!

Eggs deliver a complete protein plus key nutrients (choline, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12) in one highly digestible and absorbable package.

We keep a flock of around 300 hens, feed organic feed, let them roam to eat grasses, bugs, and be in the fresh open air. It's not always easy taking care of any livestock, especially during inclement weather (heat and cold), but it's worth it to get good eggs!

We sell our eggs right here in our coolers at the Urban Market for your convenience.

But, what about this egg recall?

With nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs recalled across Texas and surrounding states due to Salmonella, folks are looking closely at where our eggs are coming from (as if we need another reason to buy local eggs or raise hens in your backyard!).

When massive factory farms pack millions of chickens into tight spaces, a single bacterial outbreak can contaminate an entire supply chain, sickening hundreds of people and triggering massive recalls.

Here is why switching to a local, small-scale farmer makes all the difference:

âś… True Transparency: If something goes wrong on a small farm, it can be traced and fixed instantly. With giant corporation supply chains, your eggs pass through dozens of automated hands, trucks, and warehouses before reaching you.

âś… Healthier, Happier Hens: Small-scale, pasture-raised chickens get to forage outside in fresh air and sunshine. They have stronger immune systems, making them far less prone to carrying dangerous diseases. Joel Salatin says that just 4 leaves of grass each day, keeps a hen free from avian bird flu.

✅ Unmatched Freshness: Store-bought eggs can sit in cold storage for weeks before they hit shelves. Local farm eggs are often collected within days—or even hours—of being laid.

âś… Better Nutrition: Chickens allowed to eat a natural diet produce eggs with bright orange yolks that are packed with more Vitamins A, D, E, and brain-boosting Omega-3s.

Skip the massive corporate recalls and know the face of the person feeding your family. Make a decision to buy local (or grow it yourself*).

*If you'd rather grow your own, we can help you with what you need for that at our store down the road (Green's Garden - Farm and Garden Center).

There's nothing that beats a good egg!

Why we keep what we keep - why we do what we do

We found Old Heritage Creamery, a little Amish run creamery near Arthur, Illinois, years ago. They pasteurize and package the A2 A2, non-homogenized, grass-only milk from another small Amish farm in Arthur.

Grass-only Amish milk has a better nutritional profile - more Omega-3 fats, higher CLA levels, better fat balance, and more vitamins - than other milk, especially factory-farmed dairy sold in most big stores.

It can be tough, we've had equipment breakdowns, spent a few days in hotels getting our van fixed, but we make the Illinois trek, up to Fairbury and Arthur every other week. Even though we run on a shoestring like most small businesses, we feel it's worth the trip for our customers, saving them money on a superior product. You make the sacrifices, when you really believe in the mission.

Better quality nutrients and better food from small, conscientious farms is worth the higher price compared to Big Ag's cheaper, highly processed, factory-produced food.

When taking care of your health is a priority, make good food a priority for you and your family.

Providing real food for our customers, in our restaurant and in our market, isn't a gimmick or a marketing ploy, it comes from a twenty year old mission of wanting to bring the freshest food, grown without chemicals, by us and by gardeners and small farmers like us, for our customers' health.

Like an heirloom tomato, real food isn't glossy, has some imperfections, and may sometimes be less abundant than a hybrid, but the flavor is alive and unmistakable.

Join with us in our quest to eat real food, not as a casual, but every day. Experience the taste, and make a difference in your family's health.

Thinking about brunch Friday or Saturday morning?

How about our Campfire Skillet with a Golden Latte?

What's in it?
Organic potatoes, seasonal organic squash, and organic carrots fried in local animal fats, seasoned with our Campfire Seasoning. Housemade, smoked bacon (no nitrates) from local Berkshire pork, housemade sausage with no artificial junk, our own pasture-raised, organic-fed scrambled eggs, salsa verde with our own tomatillos, topped with organic microgreens, and Amish grass-fed cheese paired with an organic coffee, roasted in house, with organic turmeric and honey.

That's garden-to-fork goodness. Yum!

We’ve been on a long road with many of you.

Some of you started with us back on Spanish Street (almost eight years ago!). You stayed with us through the move to Main Street, the changes we've gone through as a family, changes in our business...and have just kept showing up.

That means more than you know.

We miss the times when our family was younger, but we're all meant to grow, and growth means change. You might have noticed that some faces have changed, but kids do grow up into adults (thankfully!), and adults make adult decisions and forge new paths (sometimes tough!)...and new kids take their places!

We’re continuing to lean further into what we’ve always cared about — clean, real food grown as close to home as we can, prepared simply and well. More garden-forward and garden-focused. More connected to what’s actually coming out of the ground.

Thank you for going on the journey with us. We’re glad you’re here.
