Today marked our final CSA distribution of 2021 for a total of 114 distribution days! To close out the year and to show our appreciation for those who stuck with us to the end, we made small tokens of thanks using flowers harvested in the fall. Thanks to @nightbloomfloraldesign for showing our crew the ropes in wreath-making. And many thanks to our farm community for another great calendar year! 2022 seeds are already in the fridge awaiting their transition to the greenhouse in another month. Wishing all of you a happy and healthy New Year! 💐

We have news! Clark Farm recently became certified by the REAL Organic Project, an organization which seeks to promote higher standards for organic food production. In recent years, the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) has changed their definition of 'organic' by allowing large-scale certification of vegetables and berries grown hydroponically -- without any soil at all. The USDA NOP has also started to allow industrial confinement operations, which often provide animals zero access to soil, to become certified organic as well.

The REAL Organic Project seeks to ensure that farms adhere to standards more in line with the ideals of the organic movement when it first emerged, standards that were centered primarily around the importance of soil health. It insists on strict standards around soil health and quality, access to fresh pasture for livestock, the quality of (or absence of) inputs for pest and w**d control, among other things. The REAL Organic Project is also fundamentally concerned with the treatment of farm workers, an aspect of this work which has been largely left out of the organic movement to date.

While we will still maintain our national organic certification, we’re excited to have joined this movement of farms and farmers who are demanding that higher standards of growing practices be upheld both in the field and through certification. If you're interested in learning more, visit www.realorganicproject.org or check out @realorganicproject.

As members of the farming community, you understand more than most the significance of the ground beneath our feet. There is only one mother Earth and we must protect her! In light of this, I wanted to share a documentary on Netflix that highlights regenerative agriculture and the benefits that this farming method would bring to our environment. Not only will this heal the soil but it will in turn overturn climate change. It is a remarkable film with many knowledgeable individuals in support of its movement who help viewers understand its significance. The film even won Best Documentary in the 2020 Los Angeles Documentary Film Festival! Below is a link to the trailer for those who are interested!
It is absolutely amazing to find a farm that understands the importance of producing sustainable food that is good for our bodies and our planet! I have been trying to support farms such as yours, and I really think you'd love the new Netflix documentary "Kiss the Ground" that details the importance of regenerative agriculture in revitalizing the planet! My entire perspective changed after watching this film, and I know you would feel so inspired because it aligns exactly with your farms goals! I'll link the trailer below, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I love this place. When Dorothy was alive it was wonderful to visit with her about the old dairy farm when she and her husband owned it. The farm she would be proud of today. Keep up the good work.
