Awesome opportunity to learn and build community

**Date is tentative, if it doesn’t work for the majority, I am flexible**

Okay, yall. Ask and you shall receive!

I’ve added the first PCF Homestead Series to the calendar.

Is imposter syndrome kicking in? Yes.
Am I absolutely capable of this? Also, yes.

I am putting together a Workbook for class that I’m super excited about. It will hopefully send you forward with encouragement, helpful materials, and useful reference points as you move along your journey.

Also, please keep in mind that homesteading is a way of life. You don’t have to have 20 acres and a cow to use these skills.

Farm to table lunch provided

Finally tackled the shed and got everything cleaned out , organized, and put back together in a way that actually makes sense.

It’s amazing how much more usable a small space becomes when everything has a place.

Still have a few thing I want to do out here, but this was a much needed improvement with a little bit of magic.

Meet Our House Quail Doug! Named because he’s a quail and a male or Quail Man aka Doug Funnie’s superhero alter ego.

This is Doug, our house quail. This is how Doug got the name Doug and became a house quail.

A little background, we started out in quail with a small little covey that we got from Allyson from Homestead Filkins , go check them out great posts and great animals , last summer. We call our covey the Horde. They are Black Coturnix Quail and live in an aviary that we built that they enjoy and keep busy in.

This spring there was a ruckus in the aviary and Doug ended up with a wound from beak to breast. After consulting some friends in the quail community, we used Vetericyn spray and the wound had healed in a couple of days and in 2 weeks you could hardly tell. Quail heal fast.

So, James got use to Doug being in the house and decided a name was needed. So the 90’s kids will get this but on the Nickelodeon show Doug, his imaginary alter ego was Quail Man and so feeling funny and clever James bestowed the name of Doug on our little friend. We ordered and modified an indoor habitat for Doug and now Doug chirps and whistles when the dogs bark and enjoys treats and pets and supervised out of pen time

Doug does not like to sit still for photos lol

I snapped a couple of pics of one of the mommas and her brood yesterday when I was going back around to check on everybody after I fed up. I caught this little buff guy up on his momma’s back, we are assuming a little cockerel since he’s gotta check everything out all the time and is very bold for being less then a week old. This momma has 4 buffs and 3 blacks and all have dark eyes and good feet at the moment.

Hopefully we have some future show birds in here and at least great back-up cockerel for the buff breeding pen, but for now they need to eat and grow and keep using there momma like a jungle gym.

Couldn’t let the day end without wishing the other half of Jameson Homestead a Happy Birthday ! The man that try’s to keep me reigned in , technologically relevant and puts up with things like a kitchen sink full of silkies before a show.

This as close as he would get to Voldemort, a Black Copper Marans rooster , that is James Renshaw Jr favorite bird here. Neither of them were having much to do with each other. They have an understanding and pretty much stay out of each others way
He said he likes the quail better😁

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!!!!!😘
