When we have an abundance for eggs on the house. Instead of waiting for them to go bad, we freeze dry them….. what does that mean?

Our freeze dryer takes out up to 98% of the moisture in the food itself and makes it shelf stable for years. We put an oxygen absorber on the package and vacuum seal them so that they become back up food. We will use them in the winter when our laying hens production goes dormant. It’s a great way to make sure our family always has a nutritious meal ready to go.

When raising meat for your family. There are a few different breeds of chicken for meat production. There is Cornish cross, Freedom rangers, Cornish kings and a couple more. This is the Cornish Cross which is typically what you see in packages at the store. They are a good quick growing breed that only take up to 10 weeks (depending on how much you want it to weigh) to reach processing time. We just processed our batch of meat chickens for our family to eat on for the year. It's a great feeling knowing we are providing our kids and ourselves with the best and most nutrient dense food that we cared for knowing everything that went into raising them.

Our garden chickens. These girls have an area between our main garden and top garden. The Top garden is where we are growing some corn and pumpkins. They are given kitchen scraps, some feed, w**ds and trimmings from the garden. They produce the best multivitamin…… the egg! We have used the extra they produce and freeze dried them to store for winter so we don’t go without this nutritious farm staple.
