We will have a batch of Bresse hatching this weekend and all will be available next Monday. There are 29 eggs entering lockdown. Last hatch had 27 of 30 hatch. Hopefully this one does well too! 🙏🏻😁 If you’re interested send me a pm.

Location: southern Panola County.

We have become big fans of this breed. They are not an “in your lap” breed, but they are very hardy and great foragers. They grow out faster than other dual purpose breeds and lay very well.

A big reason we brought them in is to help revitalize our pastures. They help with parasite management in goat and sheep fields. As well as add nitrogen back to the ground. We hope to see less bad weeds as the soil improves with their help. So sure, they take longer to get to a decent butcher weight compared to Cornish cross, but they do it with a lot less feed and give us more time fertilizing. (Butchering is recommended at 16 weeks verses Cornish cross at 8.) We can also hatch our own to grow out instead of having to buy the Cornish cross each year.

(Screen shots with wording are from www.ambresse.com . Check them out for more info including how they recommend finishing them as they do in France.)

This ram lamb was born March 20th. Pretty impressed with him and his first freshener mom. He will be available registered! 🐑🌾🐏

The lambs are between 4 and 5 weeks now and growing so nicely. ☺️

That’s a wrap! We ended up with 4 kids and 4 lambs this season. We planned this to be a partial break year, so are happy with the limited numbers 😊

There will be one registered ewe lamb available around mid June at weaning.

Our first of the year kids arrived yesterday 🥰 They are so precious.

Our goat herd has its own page. We usually focus on milk and udders on that page. No milk testing this year, but I’ll still post more pics of the dairy herd over there.

Thank you for the silkie chicks Rocking A Funny Farm. They are super cute and we hope a few will become great little broody hens for us 😊 They thankfully fit right in with our current bresse hatch!

We had 19 American Bresse chicks hatch this week. We will keep some to expand our breeding pen and will butcher the remaining ones at 16 weeks old. The goal is to replace raising Cornish cross’ with this breed.

Reach out if you’d like to purchase or trade for some hatching eggs. 🥚🐣

Last fall Izzy trimmed her flock of Katahdin’s down to just her “Churro” line (the white ones) and her retired girl Avacado. She has the 3 of them bred for March lambs. They are all registered and bred to a registered ram. Any registrable ewe lambs will be available in early June, when weaned.
