Picking strawberries again! ♥️🥰

It’s not all baby goats and baby chicks around here! Most days are spent keeping up with cleaning and ensuring our animals have the cleanest water, freshest feed, and all the love!

We don’t raise chickens as pets. We raise them to feed our family and our community.

Tonight we ate some of our pasture raised chicken for supper. Lauren cooked a whole chicken in the crockpot. Then I shredded it, added gravy and we ate it over mashed potatoes. Athena, our dog made sure nothing was wasted. 😁

Food tastes better when you know where it came from and how it was raised.

“If there is ever tomorrow when we are not together, there is something you must always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is if we are ever apart, I’m always with you.”

Today, my dad visited me while I was in the middle of completing chores. While it makes me sad to miss him, I’m reminded I’m not alone. Many people have lost their dads and today if you are one of those people, I hope you know even in death, dads never leave our side.

If you get the chance to be physically with your dad this Father’s Day I hope you get to cherish every memory. I hope you take the time to celebrate him and cherish him.

We love pasture raising our own chicken. We grow enough for our household for the year and lots to sell. We love knowing where our food came from and the short walk to the freezer.

Our meat birds are starting to get bigger which means they’re getting closer to freezer camp. In the meantime they’re living the good life

This morning we had a beautiful red headed woodpecker eating from the bird feeders.

Even on rainy days the chicken chores still have to get done. Luckily our chickens have nice walk in shelters, that we call chicken tractors. The chickens stay comfortable and dry while still getting to enjoy high quality feed, clean water and fresh grass.

Are you looking for something to do with all those extra strawberries you picked? 🍓

One of our favorite treats is strawberry chips! Yes, you read that right—strawberry chips! They’re a healthy, delicious, and versatile snack that's perfect for enjoying all year long.

Here's how we make them:

🍓 Wash, dry, and hull your strawberries (remove the stems).

🍓 Slice each strawberry into thin slices, about ⅛-inch thick. Try to keep the slices as uniform as possible so they dry evenly.

🍓 Arrange the slices on your dehydrator trays in a single layer, leaving a little space between each piece for good airflow. You can sprinkle them with sugar or lemon juice if you'd like, but it's completely optional.

🍓 Set your dehydrator to 135°F and let them dry for 6–10 hours. Start checking them around the 6-hour mark. They should feel slightly rubbery but not wet. As they cool, they'll become nice and crispy. Smaller pieces may finish sooner, so remove those first and continue dehydrating any larger slices as needed.

🍓 Once cooled, store them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place, or freeze them for longer storage.

These strawberry chips are perfect for snacking, adding to trail mix, topping yogurt, or tossing into your morning oatmeal. They never last long around our homestead!

Have you ever tried making strawberry chips?
