Our mission is to provide our region with the highest quality products and nourish the people with the knowledge and passions which will benefit the health of Earth and of our bodies, which are one organism. We are proud to promote and use aspects of Permaculture, Biodynamics, Cover Crops, Crop Rotation, Composting, Beneficial Microbes and Fungi , and Local resources. Local Heirloom Varieties, hei
rloom varieties and native edible and medicinal plants are a focus here at the farm. We are planning on expanding our business into bulk wheatgrass and aqua/hydroponics. "The people are very merry" is the translation of Manahoac from Algonquin. Manahoac is a union of tribes from the Piedmont region of Northern Virginia who allied against common enemies to protect their sacred land. This piece of property in SE fauquier County, has a rich history. The tribes that originally inhabited here date back 6,000-9,000 years to the Neolithic period. Occasionally, when we are working in the garden, we will find a native artifact like an arrowhead, awl, spearhead, fish hooks, etc. The property was a very active site during early settlement with Rock walls, Spring houses, many old foundations, and lots of relics to show for it. Also, during the civil war, this was part of a Union Camp. After Mosby's Raid on Catlett Station, many of the Northern troops retreated along the banks of Cedar Run. More recently, it was a corn farm, hippy house, boy-scout camp, then turned party spot, then hunting cabin. Now we call it home and with the massive efforts by Roots, Andrew Benton, Matt Nolan, Doni Ward, our dear friends, Permies, WOOFers, volunteers, and community members we have created a beautiful organic farm.
