Update: We emailed the certification team and they told us it wasn’t posted yet but they would post the certification now. Glad we could continue to assist the marathon on getting things done!
The Cedar Rapids Marathon was called USATF-certified three weeks ago. As of this evening, it still isn’t, at least not anywhere the public can verify.
Since May 12, someone said “certified,” and it stuck. But what should have been described is the course being measured by a USATF-certified official. Certification is a signed certificate with a course ID and an effective date, logged in USATF’s national database. The measurement was allegedly completed, but we can’t find the certification anywhere.
Go to certifiedroadraces.com, search Cedar Rapids, switch Course Status from Active to Any, and set the year to 2026.
For example, an Iowa 5k measured on April 20 was certified by May 4, and it’s now in the database. Cedar Rapids was measured on May 9 and 10.
The people who signed up for a Boston qualifier deserve to know before they line up, because an uncertified course doesn’t count for Boston.
