Heart Of Dixie Homestead & Farmstand Small homestead in Northwest Georgia ran by our family of 4. She would have loved it here, so no other name was fitting for our homestead!

Named after our girl Dixie, a great dane mastiff mix who passed away right before we moved to our property.

Everyone meet "Chorizo". He is our Hereford/Old Spot cross meat pig. Thanks to our great friends at Bo**er Hollow Farms for helping us get our first meat pig, and getting us closer to producing most our own meat for our family here on the farm!

We plan to produce our meat pigs in the future. What breed do you choose to produce and why?

Slowly but surely we are getting here. Within the next year we should be producing our own quail, chicken and pork. Beef will be something we will get from neighboring farms. Our goal is to improve what we have consumed for years, and keep our 2 year old off of store bought products as much as possible.

This is only a small portion of the issues with store bought meat these days.

This is why Ill never second guess our decision for her to be a stay at home mom with our son. It may get tight financially at times, but you simply cant put a value on what he gains from this experience. He is starting his "schooling" today. Her time home with him is invaluable and living on a homestead, outside duties each day with gardening and livestock care provide a whole new form of education he wouldnt get in the government school system.
