Petals at the Ridge

Petals at the Ridge Petals at the Ridge is a family-run flower farm nestled among the chestnut trees at Chestnut Ridge Orchard, where flowers and farmland meet.

We offer freshly cut flower stems, garden-style bouquets, dahlia tubers, all grown on our family farm.

Today’s workout: W**d eating around 500+ chestnut trees. 🌰

For anyone who thinks flower farming is all bouquets and pretty pictures, let me introduce you to the glamorous side of the business… hours of mowing and w**d eating in Missouri humidity while dodging bees, ant hills, and whatever mystery creature just rustled in the grass. (Note: I’m not a fan of snakes!)

Just a friendly reminder that Petals at the Ridge isn’t just a flower farm—it’s based on our 500+ tree chestnut orchard! We are patiently waiting for them to be in production..

Between growing flowers, tending dahlias, and maintaining the orchard, there’s never a shortage of projects around here.

If you need me, I’ll be somewhere between tree #237 and complete exhaustion.

Well, folks… the first snapdragons have officially arrived, and they understood the assignment.

After months of seed starting, transplanting, watering, w**ding, netting, and questioning my sanity, these beauties are finally showing off. And if the rest of the garden follows their lead, we’re about to be swimming in bouquets!

The zinnias are stretching, the celosia is waking up, the sunflowers are reaching for the sky, and the dahlias are plotting their grand entrance.

Current status: Excited flower farmer.
Future status: “Honey, where are we going to put all these flowers?”

Bouquet season is almost here, and Petals at the Ridge is getting ready to come on strong!

Who else gets ridiculously excited over the first blooms of the season?

5,000 Tiny Garden Helpers Have Arrived!

Today I released 5,000 Green Lacewing eggs throughout my cut flower garden, focusing on my dahlias, celosia, sunflowers, and snapdragons.

Why? Because once these eggs hatch, the larvae become one of nature’s best pest-control teams! Green lacewing larvae feast on:
✅ Aphids
✅ Thrips
✅ Whiteflies
✅ Mite eggs
✅ Mealybugs
✅ Other soft-bodied garden pests

Instead of reaching for sprays, I’m adding beneficial insects that help keep the garden ecosystem balanced while protecting the flowers I work so hard to grow.

It’s amazing to think that these tiny eggs will soon turn into thousands of hungry predators working 24/7 among the blooms. Nature really does have some incredible solutions!

Now we wait and let the lacewings get to work. 💚

Flower Farmer Confession Time…

This year, the flower beds got a serious upgrade: Hortonova netting! (aka the thing that keeps my flowers from doing interpretive dance every time the wind blows )

At first, it looks like I’m building a giant flower trampoline, but there’s actually a method to the madness!

🌼 Keeps stems growing straight and strong
🌼 Prevents flowers from flopping after storms and heavy rain
🌼 Makes harvesting easier
🌼 Helps produce those long, market-worthy stems everyone loves

Without support, some of these flowers would be face-down in the dirt faster than I can say, “I just w**ded that bed!”

So if you drive by and wonder why my flower field looks like it’s wrapped in giant netting, don’t worry—it’s not a flower jail. It’s a flower support group. 😆🌸

Now all that’s left is for Mother Nature to cooperate and let these beauties do their thing! 🌻💕

Breaking news from the flower farm: we have officially entered our overhead irrigation era!!

The wobblers are in!! Huge thanks to Ryan for getting this irrigation setup done! The flowers are hydrated, this flower farmer is excited, and I may or may not have stood out there way too long just admiring the wobble…

We’ve got blooms coming in hot, but not quite at the volume we need yet for full specialty bouquets.

So for now? We’re doing the responsible thing: enjoying them ourselves like flower hoarders with excellent taste. 😌🌸
