We picked garlic scrapes yesterday! These flower stalks are delicious. While some turn them into a pesto, we use them in place of chives in our sour cream and chive rolls recipe. About a month after picking the scrapes, our garlic will be ready for harvest and drying.

Oh the STRAWBERRIES! I haven’t U-Picked berries since I was a kid myself. So delicious and sweet! If seeing regenerative practices in action is your passion, this is where to see techniques, like keyline design, out by the chestnut trees.

P.S. those berries didn’t make it to the house

Visited the hoop houses and had a great conversation with the 8 year old gentleman who answered all questions and chatted about delicious tomato varieties! Sheep, baby sheep, cows, pasture hens and pigs abound under the watchful eyes of Great Pyrenees. If you’d like to wake up to these views, I hear they have a farm stay!

That’s the way to go. All the sights, none of the chores 😂

You're on camera! These are recent predators on our farm: raccoon, several opossums, feral cats, and a fox. We lock up the hens every night.

“A small thing can mean the world to someone else.”

We’d like to acknowledge our bee blessings - thank you feastdowneast and dukesyardhomestead. Beekeeping this spring didn’t look possible.

Early 2024 we became certified beekeepers. At the end of the year Feast Down East awarded a generous scholarship, allowing us to buy bee suits and safety gear. If we can’t have bees, we’d be able to visit others who did and learn in the meanwhile.

Then Duke's Yard Homestead, LLC gifted us our first hive with all the tools last week. We’ll be able to bring beekeeping home to the farm! This is too big for words. It impacts our crops, it adds a potential revenue stream for next year, and most of all it kickstarts a dream that the rough and tumble of life had put on pause.

Last weekend we bought swarm traps at Sapony Creek Apiaries. With a bit of luck, we may have our own live bees in 2025!
