Beans and onions don’t have the best history as companion plants. The onions can interfere with the beans ability to fix nitrogen. Here we planted them along the outside edge of our beans to create a natural pest border. Hopefully just far enough away to do the trick. I’m eating homegrown butter beans this year dammit.

When you start start as many seedlings as we do it’s way more cost effective to make your own mix. The ratio is 4:2:1. Coco coir(4), vermiculite/perlite(2), earthworm castings(1).
