The sheep always win. Every time. I don’t even know why I fight them.

The meat chickens are officially out on pasture! They’re happy and growing FAST! Whole chickens coming soon.

Another bunch, ten this time. Almost too cute to eat!

This is Sunshine, “Sunny” for short. She was part of our starter herd, the first group that came to the farm right when we did. My son was the first to earn her trust after he spent hours creeping in the grasses in he back pasture slowly getting closer and closer to her. Soon after, booping her nose, a quick pet, a long rub down her back. Finally he started sending photos of the two of them laying together, him in the curve of her stomach, legs stretched out long with a look of victorious satisfaction plastered across his face. He put in the long hard work and she quickly became everyone’s favorite cow. Today she’s one of two from the OG group. She won’t leave unless I do, we’ve both earned that.

Sold off 3/4 of the herd today. Bittersweet. Kept my favorite cow and a few to grow out, but things are already looking very different here. New beginnings for everyone just in time for spring.

Just to end the week on a high (sarcasm), found the cows got out of their section of grass and went and ate the next, oh, ENTIRE PASTURE (probably. I don’t know. It was dusk.). So in the dark, with the middle kid, found the area they got through, trudged back and forth in the mud turning off chargers (kid got zapped a million times because the ONLY time she doesn’t have her phone attached to her hand is when she actually needs it), and then corralled them BACK into the space with fresh hay. Trudged back AGAIN, turned on chargers and left the scene. Will assess mowed forage tomorrow. Anyone want some cows??
