From our family to yours, Happy 4th of July and America's 250th Birthday!

On such a special day today, we had to take a moment to reflect on the Taste of Charlotte's American Story. This festival is a small example of the American Dream and the American Can-Do attitude. A hard-working family from Buffalo, NY moved to Charlotte, NC 30 years ago and grew up with their family tradition going to the Taste of Buffalo. They thought every city had a "Taste of." When they discovered that Charlotte did not have one, they said "Let's create a community event like that for Charlotte." Their family made Charlotte their home, their family got bigger, and with a lot of hard work, grew this event from a small seed, which evolved into an annual festival for the Charlotte Community that has lasted since 1999. All it takes is a spark, a dream, perseverance, and "a belief that you can do it" in this country and you can create something that becomes a lasting tradition to share with others. Cheers to their risk-taking spirit and Cheers to America!

Charlotte has some of the best fireworks from 's Skyshow with the best view of the city at Truist Field, Home of the Charlotte Knights. We are excited to announce our 1st Annual Taste For Good Scholarship Winner: Kayla Hodges

Kayla graduated from Nation Ford High School and plans to attend Coastal Carolina University to major in Exercise Science while pursuing her goal of becoming a pediatric occupational therapist. She is passionate about helping children build confidence, independence, and life skills.

Kayla is a compassionate and dependable leader whose personal experiences, including the loss of her father and grandfather at age 15, strengthened her resilience and inspired her commitment to supporting others. Throughout high school, she has been active in leadership and service through Jack and Jill of America Upper Palmetto Chapter where she served as Teen Treasurer, Legislative Chair, and Teen Delegate. She also participated in her high school’s Black Student Union, Spirit Club, and served as a Student Ambassador for When We All Vote.

Outside of school, Kayla founded her babysitting business, Kids with Kayla, and organized a community baby shower for families in need. She also was a participant in the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Debutante Program, earning recognition for her commitment to community service.

Kayla hopes to continue making a positive impact through her career by supporting children and families with compassion, encouragement, and care.
