Real talk post alert. 🚨

This week we are releasing two new wines - our very first Rosé, made from Cabernet Franc, and a Sauvignon Blanc from Virginia.

Have we had time to write proper tasting notes and tech sheets? NOPE. ❎

Have we had time to send out an email to our list? Also NOPE. ❎

Have we had time to stage a spring-perfect photo shoot with a beautiful background? NOPE and NOPE. ❎❎ (instead, please enjoy these pictures taken by our daughter on our deck)

Have we had time to perfectly plan everything out so that we can offer these beauties to the world in the way that they (and that Sandy’s winemaking skill) deserve? NOPE, NOPE, NOPE. ❎❎❎

Why? Well, because, like everyone else on the planet, we have about a million things going on between work, parenting, and trying to have some kind of life, and we just haven’t been able to get around to the picture perfect wine release that Erin, and all of her years of job experience and training, would really like for us to have.

Especially because y’all, these wines are SO GOOD. The Rosé is pale pink, and acidic, and we’ve already crushed a couple of bottles with friends and neighbors. And the Sauvignon Blanc is zippy and fresh, and we’re marking a big milestone with this one because it’s the first time we’ve worked with fruit that Sandy grew. (We’ll tell you that whole story later.)

But the wines ARE currently for sale on our website, and we will be pouring and selling them at the on Saturday from 9-1! So we really hope that you will come see us if you are in Charlottesville, and check them out online if you’re not. (We ship all over the country! Any orders placed now will ship the week of April 13.)

From two busy, stressed out, Gen-X, small business owners, and parents of a vivacious young kid - we hope to see you and pour some wine for you soon. 💛🍷

- Erin & Sandy

We couldn’t be more excited to be part of this year’s Virginia Festival of the Book right here in Charlottesville this weekend! 📚🍷

We are both avid readers, so anything that celebrates books, authors, and the joy of getting lost in a great story is right up our alley. You’ll find us hosting a Wine Lounge from 12:00 - 6:00 at the Literary Marketplace on Saturday in the Old Metropolitan Hall Cellar, and we’re honored to be part of the Festival's Author Party that evening from 8:30 - 10:30 at the Doyle Hotel.

If you’re browsing books by day or raising a glass with writers by night, we’d love to see you - come say hello, discover a new favorite read, and toast to a love of books with us!

You asked, we’re delivering! Our very first Rosé is bottling in two weeks!

100% Cabernet Franc, acidic and fresh, this wine will be available in early April, just in some for spring and summer sipping. 💛

A few weeks ago, we quietly released our 2024 vintage of Cabernet Franc, and we're so pleased with the response it has gotten so far. 🍷

The 2024 vintage carries the same elegance you loved in our first, but with a different depth - it's delicate and pretty after opening and grows in the glass with a Burgundian finesse.

Whereas our first vintage, 2022, was sourced entirely from Shenandoah Valley AVA, for the 2024 we went a bit farther afield, and sourced from two different vineyards - one in Shenandoah Valley AVA, and the other in Monticello AVA.

The result is a wine that has the familiar backbone and acid that makes it a great food wine, but also adds a lush element that rounds out the edges with smooth tannins. In short, it's delicious.

The wine is already available in various restaurants and retailers around the state (thank you, !), on our website for shipping, and we will be pouring it at the for the rest of the year.

Thank you to all of the restaurants, retailers, sales reps, and customers who have already gotten behind this wine in a major way! If you've tasted it already we'd love to hear what you thought in the comments below.

Dogwood & Thistle is a two-person show. We don't have any employees -we (Sandy and Erin) do it all ourselves - the winemaking, sales, marketing, vineyard selection, and everything in between.

However, as with most things in life, it takes a village, and we are INCREDIBLY grateful to those individuals who pitch in to help with wine logistics and home logistics when we need it so that we can do what we love and make this work.

Huge shout out to Tommy and Sanford (Erin's dad and his best friend) for helping haul grapes and bins for us all over Central Virginia throughout harvest, and to Terrie and Judy (Erin's mom and stepmom) who help take care of our daughter when harvest gets crazy and when we have events on nights and weekends.

We couldn't do it without you all!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Wine Club Pickup Party yesterday afternoon! We loved seeing you all, and were so excited to be pouring our 2023 Shenandoah Valley Riesling for guests at the same time that Sandy was pressing the 2025 vintage of the same wine.

If you haven't had a chance to make it to the yet, they are open every weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can taste and purchase our wines, along with wines from several other local small producers. It's a great way to support small wineries and discover new local favorites!
