Took our boy to visit Edenton, NC. One day it was 90, the next it was overcast and 70. While dad is turkey hunting, we sat outside of a coffee shop and he got a pup cup and pets from about 50 people. This town is very cute, but small. We walked the whole thing twice and it wasn’t even a mile 😆 he also figured out reflective surfaces today and found himself in a window. It was amusing for several minutes until he tried to play with the glass.

Here's what nobody tells you about Easter meals 👇

The main dish gets the credit.
The sides get demolished.

Real talk: I've watched families skip seconds on ham just to load up on sides instead.

🥔 Crockpot cheesy hashbrowns (because you need oven space)
🌽 Jiffy corn pudding (shockingly good for how easy it is)
🥕 Butter roasted carrots (even kids eat these)

The mistake most people make? Complicated sides that stress you out.

These are mostly make-ahead or hands-off.

Because Easter meals should feel special, not exhausting.

It was Tycho’s birthday in January. We just got a card from for Einstein. I wonder if Einstein got Tycho’s card and is confused that someone thinks he is 2 😅 Happy Birthday both puppies!

This dog won the new home lottery. We’re still grieving Melly, but he’s making us laugh and finishing our yogurt ❤️ Michael is trying to turn him into a hunting bro… but he just wants to play with his friends and eat peanut butter.

It’s not the terrible day to say goodbye yet, but we learned today that Melly has lymphoma. We’ve had our suspicions, so we were sort of prepared - but it’s still gut wrenching all the same.
She’s too old for her body to tolerate chemo, so she’s just going to take steroids and get spoiled rotten for whatever time she has left. You wouldn’t know she has it if you didn’t feel her lymph nodes, so we’re going to keep letting her enjoy her walks and snacks until she doesn’t want to anymore 😢
Forgive me if I’m a miserable w***h for the foreseeable future.

Birthday festivities so far have involved sushi, sweating our faces off watching people climbing (holy smokes it was hot today 🥵)

Then drinking Japanese IPAs from Brazil and eating ramen. Not bad, not bad.

Hopefully, the only shocking good news about August 17th is that it’s my birthday 😂

One of our favorite treats in Germany was these sticky buns, and we missed out on an extra day of them because we forgot that everything is closed on Sunday in Heidelberg except for stores that sell tourist junk.

It’s been haunting us, so I found a cookbook online in German and did some recipe conversions to make someone’s Oma’s schnecken recipe. I am in a sugar coma 🫢

I overcooked the sugar topping because the recipe was confusing, but they are otherwise perfect 👌

I’m typing up the recipe now so it makes more sense - I’ll share it when it’s done.

And maybe more German food because my husband is a fiend 😆

Melly has to eat a special diet now that she’s getting old and her kidneys aren’t working as well as they used to. We started with kibble and she was not a fan. She protested for a few days and we were starting to worry.

We got some canned food and she inhaled it, then looked at me like I was her evil keeper who was not feeding her enough 😂 she’s acting like happy, normal Melly again now that she has a full belly.

My back finally healed and things had been going SO well - I was running! But I seem to have done something that pi**ed off my SI joint and when I say excruciating pain 😣

So if I have appeared to be in a dark place… it’s because I am. I haven’t been able to find a position to relax (or sleep) for a week now - so Gilmore girls, a heating pad, and the dog have been keeping me company. My husband has been spoiling me, so I watched sports with him 😆

Fingers crossed this will pass soon 😑
