Another night, another spot!

Ventured out on a night I didn’t want to cook for myself and ended up at The Retriever Bar & The Decoy Bottle Shop. I have never sat in the back dining room and the decor was wonderful. The place already has a cool and upscale aesthetic but the dining room has cozy seating and cool portraits on the wall.

They have more drink options than you could image, definitely something for everyone! Even those who might not want something with alcohol, they have some great nonalcoholic options.

My appetizer was supposed to be green beans but they must have been popular as they were out tonight. Instead we were offered brussel sprouts with the same dressing, and they impressed! Roasted to have a bit of crunch and the dressing with the fresh lime on top was bright and kept me going back for more.

Dinner was a house burger and a salmon burger. Both came with perfectly done fries, crispy and flavorful. The house burger is two smashed patties, done just right, with lettuce, pickles and their bistro sauce. Everything paired together to create a perfect burger.

The salmon burger is perfectly cooked, the patty itself was just lightly crunchy on the outside with big flaky chunks of salmon inside. The lettuce and aioli were th perfect companions on the sandwich, adding more texture and flavor.

A wonderful night out at a local spot. Make sure to try their oysters too!

Life gets busy! But finally had a chance to try out a hit spot in Rock hall, the Flying Decoy Bar and Grill . Out for an impromptu date night, we got there just before everyone else was out for the night, so definitely consider a reservation on the weekends.

Walking in, the decor was so cool with the windows and the chosen artwork for the walls. The bar looked a like a great place to hangout too!

Tonight they had some wonderful special options so we decided to try the local catfish - Chef’s choice style. It was wonderfully cooked, on a bed of fresh vegetables and basmati rice and covered in a coconut curry that was fantastic. The whole dish was light and brings you back to summer, a place we all wish were with the impending snow!

The other dish we got was the harvest pasta. It was a beautiful bright dish. The pasta was cooked perfectly and coated in a light basil pesto, with vegetables mixed throughout. The butternuts squash purée on the side gave it a bit of sweetness when you wanted to change up a bite. Eat it together or separately, it’s a hit no matter what!

Our only recommendation is if you are super hungry, make sure to get a side or a starter! They had some amazing options and this is a place you can really allow yourself to try a few things!

Recently I stopped at The Little Lemon Leaf Diner for lunch. I have been excited to go there since they opened and am happy to report an excellent meal.

The salmon sandwich had a really nice sized piece of salmon on it and it was cooked to perfection. The sauce elevated the flavor and made for a fantastic lunch. It came with homemade chips and they were crispy and crunchy, little bit of a thicker cut and were the perfect side.

The sweet potato fries were also perfectly crisp with a little added sweetness. The second they came out they smelt amazing and tasted just as good.

Now on to the award-winning cream of crab soup. It’s award-winning for a reason! The right amount of crab and cream and seasoning. I always missed JR’s cream of crab soup and I am so thankful we have it back again. I’ve never had a cream of crab soup as good as this one.

Can’t wait to go back again.

Something a little different today! Today I stopped by a brand new place. Brian's Best Pastries opened its doors for the first time to our little community. Upon entering I was greeted by Charles. He was excited about his pastries and let me know what he had today and would be putting out later in the day.

Today I picked up a chocolate cake slice, piña colada’s cake slice and an iced cinnamon roll.

The chocolate cake was fluffy and moist. The chocolate icing was a great balance in between each layer and the top layer of icing had a mocha type ganache. The pairing works well together.

The piña colada’s cake was exactly as described. Bright and tasty, the cake was moist the the amount of coconut flavor to pineapple was just right. The added filling and coconut shavings was the perfect topping.

The iced cinnamon roll was large and well baked. The icing sunk into the layers and made for the perfect pull apart pieces.

Each item had a delicious balance of its elements and I will definitely get these again!

A special night out celebrating! A few days ago, I was at Deep Blue at Kitty Knight.

Started dinner off with crab dip! Came out fresh and hot with some tortilla chips. The dip was a little different than your typical crab dip with a little tomato in it but it was so tasty and creamy. Perfectly paired with the crispy chips.

For dinner we had the bacon Gouda burger. It was a very big burger with bacon jam for a little sweet and salty flavor. A side of fries completed the entree. Our other entree was the shrimp scampi. The pasta was perfectly cooked with 5 nice sized shrimp. Topped with a white wine sauce, lemon zest, arugula and parmesan. It was bright and delicious.

To top off our celebration we got the chocolate lava cake. It was warm with a good scoop of vanilla ice cream. The chocolate sauce, vanilla and chocolate cake combo makes for a perfect bite.

To top it all off we had a beautiful view of the river. Deep Blue is a perfect place for a date night, a celebration or just some amazing food.

A weekday lunch hit is always Procolino's Pizza. Go in any day around lunch and you will see how much the town loves this restaurant. A sizable menu and a counter showing off fresh pizza that you can get by the slice. This week my coworkers and I went and enjoyed the giant slices, a perfect meal.

My fav for the day was the Buffalo chicken pizza, loaded up with chicken, just the right amount of buffalo sauce and a beautiful layer of cheese. And I cannot go without the garlic knots!

Other slices on the table were an absolutely loaded meat lovers pizza, hearty slice of veggie and a pepperoni roll. Everyone left full and happy.

It’s been a while but wanted to highlight Its Masala Time once again! Out for a date night and had dinner there last night, knowing I wanted their butter chicken again.

Everytime I go in I see a smiling face and know we are in for a nice evening.

Started the dinner with the Mix Pakora, which are veggie fritters, and there are a few different types. They were very flavorful, and a fun way to get in a few more vegetables. Also fish pakora! It was a tasty white fish and fried to perfection. Not greasy at all and had nice flavor.

For dinner was the butter chicken, a staple to me. They asked what level of heat I would like, which was greatly appreciated. The chicken was tender and flavorful and you can just never get enough of the sauce. Putting it all together with the rice makes for a filling meal and the garlic naan is perfect to soak up the extra sauce. No drop goes to waste. The second dinner dish was chicken fried rice. It came out fresh and aromatic. The colors of the vegetables and the marinaded chicken made for a beautiful presentation. And it tasted as good as it looked.

Definitely looking forward to my next trip there and can’t wait to keep highlighting more of the restaurants we all know and love!

A very tasty lunch at Play It Again Sam. I ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich on the ciabatta bread, with lettuce and onion and I was not disappointed at all! The ratio of everything was great, and since the ciabatta rolls are on the smaller side, they made two small sandwiches. Loved it, when home happy and full. And you can’t go wrong with a huge handful of potato chips and a pickle spear to round it all off. And always a hit, their coffee is wonderful. The cold brew today was flavorful and smooth.

Date night took me to Cafe Sado, a place I’ve gone plenty of times. I tried a few new things I don’t normally get and was very pleased.

To start the meal off was the crab dip and bacon wrapped scallops. The crab dip isn’t your typical Maryland crab dip, it features a curry flavor and incorporates onion. Served very hot, it was able to stay warm the entire time I enjoyed it and I always like crispy baguette slices. The bacon wrapped scallops came with crispy potato slices, a perfect complement. The scallops were tender, full of flavor and the bacon cooked to perfection.

The second course was a rainbow roll and shrimp tempura roll. The rainbow roll was light and refreshing. The shrimp tempura roll had a little more substance and was fun with the extra crunch.

Yesterday I wanted something a little different for lunch so I made a stop at Modern Stone Age Kitchen. They have super friendly staff and the pastry counter is hard to resist! (I wish I snapped a pic). Super fresh food and good for you too.

I picked up a chicken salad sandwich and got the fermented carrot sticks for the side. They got it made for me quickly and once back to my office I got to chow down. It was fantastic, very delicious and filling. Don’t miss the chance to try their breakfast too!

A Monday night treat! Never had a bad meal from The Jefas out in Galena. Definitely worth a short drive for a good meal. Called in an order to go tonight and everything was still perfect once I got home 20 minutes later.

Steak tacos, chicken tacos, both stuffed and topped with onion and cilantro. The squeeze of lime finished them off perfectly.
Chicken nachos are very tasty and the box was filled to the brim. Plenty of toppings to go around and more than enough for two to share as an appetizer.
Chicken quesadilla is a classic comfort, with a great ratio of chicken and cheese. It comes with rice or beans and a side salad. More than enough for a meal.

So glad to have good food!

Tonight I tried El Rancho! Always excited to try out a new spot. The placed was well filled, colorful and full of life. The servers were quick and very friendly. I especially like the cute branded cups and who doesn’t like complimentary chips and salsa? For an appetizer I enjoyed chicken nachos, brought out quickly and were the perfect size to share. My dinner was the sopes with steak, very tasty and definitely made fresh. The quesabirra came out hot and was full of meat, the dipping consomé was tasty and always adds to the experience.

Everything was tasty, reasonably priced and was a great meal. Looking forward to my next visit!
