Thanks as always for the tremendous support as we near the century mark - nearing our initial goal of servicing the top 100 places to drink craft beer in Chicagoland. Tighthead Brewing Company - "a brewery you can lean on"

Name Origin:

Tighthead Prop - the Rugby position (from wikipedia)

The props "prop up" the ho**er in the scrum.[26] They form part of the front row of the scrum and push against the oppositions props. The loosehead prop is positioned to the left of the ho**er and their head will be on the outside of the scrum when it engages. The tighthead is to the right of the ho**er with their head positioned between the opposition ho**er and the opposition loosehead prop.[26] The prop's main role is to provide stability at the scrum and support the ho**er in quickly winning the ball.[95] At the line-out the prop's role is to support the jumper as they compete for the ball. They are usually positioned at the front of the line-out with a jumper in between them. They are also often involved in lifting jumpers when receiving kick-offs.[92] While scrummaging is still seen as their main responsibility, modern props are also expected to contribute in attack and defence.[95]
Props have to take in pressure from the locks and loose forwards pushing from behind and the opposition pushing against them, so they are often among the strongest players in a team. Some of the more successful props have short necks and broad shoulders to absorb this force as well as powerful legs to drive the scrum forward.[95] Since the game has become professional non-specialist props or ho**ers cannot play in the front row. If, through sendings-off or injuries, a team does not have enough specialist front row players, the scrums become 'uncontested' (i.e. no pushing is allowed and the team putting the ball into the scrum wins it).[93] On their own scrum, the loosehead's role is to provide the ho**er with a clear view to strike the ball, while the tighthead tries to keep the scrum stable.[96] When the opposition is putting the ball in, the tighthead attempts to disrupt the opposing ho**er or loosehead, making it difficult for them to win the ball.[96]
Props in the International Rugby Hall of Fame include: Jason Leonard (England and Lions), Syd Millar (Ireland and Lions) and Wilson Whineray (New Zealand).

Pale Ale Smackdown: IPA

Proud to bring Chicago Mag's top IPA in Chicagoland to market for the fine folks at Tighthead Brewing (Irie IPA). Congrats Bruce and Billy!

Pale ale is the style of beer most open to interpretation—and thus the ideal test of a brewer’s talent. Here 18 recommended locals—9 American, 9 India pale ales—faced off. Three winners emerged.

When we took on Tighthead Brewing Company south of Armitage Avenue over the holidays, I don't think Bruce and Billy expected this so fast, but...have beer, will travel! Tighthead Brewing Company draft beer is officially and prominently featured in some of Central Illlinois' finest craft beer bars: Black Dog Smoke & Ale House (Urbana), Big Grove Tavern (Champaign), Crane Alley (Urbana), Medici (Normal), Radio Maria (Champaign)...and counting! Now that is South of Armitage!

Real nice experience while driving back from dropping a keg of the just released Mechanics Grove Maibock from Tighthead Brewing Co. to a wonderful restaurant and beverage program in Homewood (The Cottage on Dixie - Chicago Mag "Hot Places" - go get some!)...and discovered Horse Thief Hollow Brewpub and Restaurant in Beverly. Another great food and beverage program...Vive le Southside!

We get a lot of positive comments on our logo. I thought I would share the local artist's original rendition of my hope of what it might look like (exceded) as conveyed through the wonderful artisanship of one Bernie McGovern - Chicago artist and car
toonist. Here is another place to find his amazing work: Props also to Chicago graphic designer Joe Talamantez who so skillfully manipulated via Adobe Illustrator the original art until it reflected my final vision. Pull up any website for Lettuce Entertain You to find his master handy work or contact Make Yourself Studio in Chicago. Again, thank you both - love it!
