7 things to keep in mind for your next buyer meeting:

1) Buyers don’t care about your brand in the same way you do. They care about growing their category. Your brand is a vehicle for helping them do that.

2) Know your velocities. How are your products performing today? Are you keeping pace with the category average or outpacing it?

3) If you have momentum, come prepared with a plan to keep it going. Think new flavors, new sizes, new SKUs, and limited-time offerings.

4) Bring future innovation into the conversation. Even if it’s still a brainstorm, give the buyer a sense of where the brand could go next.

5) Don’t only focus on what’s new. Ask how you can make the products already on shelf work harder.

6) Think about how you can communicate more effectively at shelf. Displays, shelf talkers, signage, and other in-store tools can all help boost velocity.

7) Frame your ideas around the buyer’s goals. The question isn’t just, “How do we sell more of our product?” It’s, “How can our brand help you grow this category?”
