n be. Strings of white lights lite the ceiling and walls of the dining room, gleaming on the whitewashed hardwood floor, that has a history of it’s own. The longest wall of the room is covered with photographs of family, friends, and long time guests. RoSal’s is a place where you can go once and feel like a regular. In its cozy atmosphere you will take pleasure in all the comforts of a home-cooked meal without the mess.

La Festa Di San Giuseppe

The tradition of the St. Joseph’s Table of food-- “la tavola di San Giuseppe”-- has its origins in a Sicilian legend from the Middle Ages and attributes the end of a devastating drought to a prayer-devotion that the Sicilian people made to St. Joseph. This continuous celebration is a symbolic “Thank You”-- and a renewal of the Sicilian people’s devotion to him. It is a shared celebration with the entire community, where the riches of food are given as alms to the poor: Traditional etiquette is that no one can be turned away from this table.

St. Joseph is celebrated in Sicily and in Sicilian American communities because it is believed he saved the island of Sicily from famine in the Middle Ages. Today, the saint is celebrated with the "St. Joseph's Day Table" or an "Altar," where a statue of St. Joseph looks down on a table offering candles, flowers, and - of course - food.

Buona Festa della Donna - Happy International Women's Day! In Italy, women receive a yellow mimosa flower. The flowers serve as a token of appreciation and as an expression of female solidarity. In 1945 the Union of Italian Women declared March 8 a special holiday to celebrate womanhood across the country.

Also across the country, many bars and restaurants offer special pricing and menus for women and flower stands selling mimosa flowers are set up around the cities. Auguri a tutte le donne!
