PADUCAH - Long-haul trucker Eddie Ison, 51, sent shockwaves through the Flying J truck stop yesterday by embarking on a spontaneous, cross-country romance. After just two days from meeting "parking lot hostess" Marlene, 34, he asked her to join him on his upcoming coast-to-coast delivery run.
"When I looked into her eyes, I just knew she was special," admits the Paducah man. "The heart wants what it wants, even if 'what it wants' is someone you met yesterday outside the diesel pumps."
Marlene, who has a rumored heart of gold and knows her way around a big rig, happily agreed. "Itβs a big country, and Eddie has a big personality," she chirped, securing a large duffel bag full of toiletries next to Isonβs collection of beef jerky. "I'm looking forward to getting to know him better."
The couple departed this morning, with Ison confidently predicting that the 3,000-mile journey would either result in a proposal or a restraining order.
This is a developing story.
